@FreeRangeKids Picking strawberries at 14, piece labor not hourly (1980). Worked so hard but the Mexicans were always way faster than me. Farmer explained: I was working for some new records, they were working so their families didn't starve.
@ThatEricAlper Car snapped a ball joint on my way to see/photograph Amyl and the Sniffers in a 200-head club. Next time they came to town they were headlining a major league baseball stadium.
@FreeRangeKids As someone whose gig is teaching chess in an afterschool program: Maybe 20% of the TKs and 50% of the Ks are ready to be interested.
The ones who don't want to be there cause 90% of the drama. Making it way harder to deliver a quality program to kids who do want to be there.
@SuDharmapala He knew The Chin. Personally. Building in NY in the 80's it was unavoidable. Not "had heard of him." Had dinner with the man. This is just that playbook on a grander scale.
@tbonier Curious how he legally got voters' addresses.
When I had a slice of voter database working on a friend's campaign last cycle my understanding was we had to promise not to do stuff like this with the data.
The idea that Joe Random can get everyone's home address is horrifying.
@ThatEricAlper 1) He's not a hate-backing jerk
2) He's got a bunch of Grammys, the other guy doesn't.
3) He's widely recognized as outstanding at what he does, even if what he does isn't really my thing
If there's more I need to know than that I'm not sure what it is.
@ThatEricAlper "Divided We Stand" from T.S.O.L.
Punk intensity, pop hooks, serious-but-not-pretentious lyrics, vocals you can understand, anti-garage clean, clear production.
@Sandiegohumor Only citizens do math like that.
Gloria gets more money in the general fund he can spend on his donors. That's all there is to him.
Some not-his-donors get screwed? Shrug.
@ThatEricAlper The horror movies never bothered me. But watching the Ruffian vs. Foolish Pleasure match race live still messes with my head 50 years later.
@Matt_Pinner Theoretically my parents' encyclopedia not mine, but yeah, 20.
Requesting bonus points for Fortran, COBOL, a party line, a summer ag job at 13 and "got a joint passed to me at 14 at a Dead show right before Mt. St. Helens erupted during Fire on the Mountain."
