The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) conducted nationwide operations against illegal coal mining, theft, and unauthorized transportation

Between July 20 and July 26, 2026, CISF carried out 85 intelligence-based raids, leading to the seizure of 1,277 metric tonnes of illegally mined and transported coal. The operations resulted in the registration of one FIR, the arrest of five persons, and the seizure of 40 vehicles involved in illegal activities.

At the GreenSole Foundation, founders Shriyans Bhandari and Ramesh Dhami have made it their mission to give discarded footwear a second life. Their initiative has impacted the lives of over eight lakh people across India. Last year alone, 1,30,589 pairs of slippers and 95,357 school bags were distributed to children. Most shoes we throw away are made from a complex mix of rubber, plastics, foam, leather, and textiles, making them extremely difficult to recycle. Globally, nearly 20 billion pairs of shoes are produced every year ending up in landfills. During his keynote address at the Roadshow on Promotion of Surface Coal & Lignite Gasification Projects, Hon’ble Union Minister of Coal and Mines Shri G Kishan Reddy described Coal Gasification as the need of the hour for strengthening India’s energy security, industrial growth, Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the vision of Viksit Bharat under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He stated that the Rs 8,500 crore Incentive Scheme launched in 2024 had received an encouraging response, and building on this momentum, the Union Cabinet has now approved a larger incentive support of Rs 37,500 crore expected to mobilise investments of nearly Rs 2.5 lakh crore, generate significant employment opportunities and create a new industrial value chain in the country.

Shri Reddy emphasised that Coal Gasification will help create reliable domestic feedstock for fertilizers, chemicals, petrochemicals, hydrogen and transport fuels while reducing import dependence, enhancing energy security and strengthening India’s industrial resilience amid evolving global economic conditions and changing supply chain dynamics. He further highlighted that the scheme remains technology-agnostic, allowing project developers to bring commercially proven technologies from any part of the world without restrictions, and called upon Ministries, State Governments, industry leaders, startups, researchers and technology partners to actively participate in advancing India’s clean coal conversion ecosystem and the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, in his opening remarks at the Roadshow on Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects, underscored that India stands at a pivotal moment where the nation is leveraging its own resources and ingenuity to shape the next chapter of industrial transformation, strategic self-reliance, and national resilience.

Highlighting India’s vast coal and lignite reserves as a national endowment, he stated that coal gasification is key to utilising coal more intelligently while strengthening energy security, reducing strategic import dependence, and building domestic manufacturing capabilities across critical sectors such as fertilizers, chemicals, and steel.

Referring to the evolving geopolitics of global energy and commodity supply chains, he emphasised that India’s coal is not merely a commodity, but a strategic asset. He further remarked, “The opportunity is unprecedented. The need is urgent. The support is generous. And the time is now.”

He also thanked all participating stakeholders, industry leaders, and partners for their enthusiastic participation in the roadshow.
