🔦SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Maurice Pitt works 20 hrs/week as a Direct Support Professional for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities! This "field research" project also included lit review on different therapies in this field that he's gotten to use at work. 👏👏

Hi! my name is Sage, I’m currently a junior majoring in Psychology. This summer, I will be participating in @Columbia's Summer Public Health Scholars program (@ColumbiaSPHSP)! I’m excited to meet mentors in public health and work toward my goal of becoming an epidemiologist.

We face many obstacles in the minority community and I believe that being well-informed and changing the narrative towards mental health can help a lot in saving people’s lives. @NoStigmas @SUNY_Purchase

This project is important to me because it’s something that I witness in my community and household a lot. Mental health is either not taken as seriously as it should be or people don’t have enough information about it to even seek help.

I will replicate a study on a stigma-reducing educational intervention in a minority community in the Bronx. An experimental group will read about mental illness while a control group will read about physical illness. Then, mental health stigma will be measured using a scale.
