[Sports world] 2511119 Jin was almost like a god in the military. Kang Seung-yoon Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Stories of Military Life with BTS JIN
Singer Kang Seung-yoon shared an episode he experienced with BTS JIN during his military service.
On the November 19 broadcast of KBS CoolFM’s Park Myung-soo’s Radio Show, Kang Seung-yoon—returning with a solo album after 4 years and 7 months—appeared as a guest and talked about his time in the military and recent activities.
Park Myung-soo said, “I was wondering how you’ve been, and it turns out it hasn’t even been a year since you were discharged. You completed your service as an Army sergeant, received awards as an outstanding trainee and for excellence in a writing contest, achieved early promotion to corporal, were selected as a special-class soldier, and even had perfect marksmanship. You did really well in the military.”
Kang Seung-yoon responded, “It feels odd to say it myself, but I was also promoted early to sergeant. I always earned the top grade in promotion exams. I was a special-class soldier, and I served as a barber, counselor, and squad leader. As a trainee, I aimed to become a drill instructor, so I excelled in every subject,” listing his numerous military achievements.
When Park asked, “Why didn’t you just stay in the military as a career soldier?”, Kang Seung-yoon replied honestly, “The officers actually suggested I consider it. I received a lot of scout offers because they thought I was well-suited for the role, so I did think about it.”
Park Myung-soo then asked, “I heard BTS JIN was in your unit?” Kang Seung-yoon shared, “He was a drill instructor at the training center I entered. I was so envious—his presence felt enormous. Within the military system, he was almost like a godlike figure. That godlike JIN even gave me Choco Pies, which I was so grateful for.”
He continued, “To be honest, we didn’t know each other beforehand. Before I enlisted, he heard that I would be entering that training center and contacted me first. JIN told me, ‘Would you be interested in becoming a drill instructor with me during your service?’ But because my military life became complicated, things didn’t go as I hoped, and I felt really upset about that.”
Meanwhile, Kang Seung-yoon will hold a solo concert for the first time in about four years. Starting with performances in Busan on December 24 and 25, he will continue the “PASSAGE #2 CONCERT TOUR” in Daegu, Daejeon, and Gwangju in January, Seoul in February and March, and also Osaka and Tokyo, covering five cities in Korea and two cities in Japan.
