Trump’s stated war aims at the start of March, compared with latest Memorandum of Understanding :
1. Regime change.
[Now: not mentioned.]
2. Annihilation of Iran’s navy.
[Achieved, but no block on rebuilding new ships, and Iran still demanding compensation for old ones.]
3. Ensuring Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon.
[Now: Iran agrees, because it has always promised not to build nuclear weapons — though this has often been questioned in the West.]
4. Ensuring Iran can’t arm, fund and direct resistance groups like Hezbollah and Hamas.
[Now: Iran showing no sign of agreeing — hence continuing Israeli attacks in Lebanon. This could result in breakdown of agreement if not sorted.]
The US also insisted that Iran couldn’t charge tolls on ships passing through Strait of Hormuz. Now being reported (e.g. by The Telegraph) that the Memo of Understanding says Iran and Oman will control Hormuz, and ships will have to pay tolls.
Iran’s own demands, still to be discussed, include $25 billion in blocked assets etc. (Donald Trump criticised Pres. Obama for handing over $1.7 billion to Iran as part of the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement.)
BUT if the Gulf is reopened and oil prices start to fall, maybe people won’t care too much that so few of Trump’s war aims less than four months ago will have been achieved.

If your planning to visit the Lake District over the summer months, please please please can we think about more than just ourselves. Although the Lakes are a place of undeniable beauty and a place for relaxing, they are also a place of work for many and we need to be able to do our job.

Once you’ve parked your car, please could you get out and think “would i think this was a stupid place to park” if the answer is yes, then pick another spot. Please don’t park in “Keep clear” and “no parking” or in front of gates.

This is not just annoying for us that work these landscapes but also those that keep you safe and rescue you while you’re here. If Mountain rescue needed through this gate at the top of Haweswater today, they would struggle.

This isn’t a rant, we want as many visitors as possible for the economy but please think, this is first a workplace. “would i be happy if someone did that at my place of work”
