Harry Kane spent years giving Tottenham his best years, breaking records, scoring goals and carrying a team that repeatedly failed to win major trophies.
Yet, people used those same trophyless years to diminish his greatness.
Today, he is a Ballon d’Or winner.
And every time I think about Harry Kane’s journey, I think about Bruno Fernandes.
Bruno has spent years sacrificing his prime for Manchester United. He arrived in January 2020 and immediately became the heartbeat of a team that was desperately searching for direction.
He has delivered goals, assists, creativity, leadership and match-winning performances under different managers, different systems and different teammates. He has carried this club through seasons when the football around him was nowhere near the standard Manchester United should demand.
He has won individual recognition because his performances have been exceptional. He has consistently produced numbers that put him among the most productive players in European football.
Yet, what do some Manchester United fans use to diminish him?
TROPHIES.
“He hasn’t won enough.”
“He isn’t a legend because he hasn’t won the biggest prizes.”
“He needs to do more.”
Do more of what, exactly?
How much more can one individual do in a team sport when the institution around him repeatedly fails to build a team capable of competing for the biggest honours?
Bruno cannot sign his own teammates. He cannot appoint his own managers. He cannot fix the club’s recruitment. He cannot single-handedly restore Manchester United to the summit of European football.
He can only do his job, and for years, he has done it exceptionally well.
The most painful thing about Bruno’s United career is that his prime has been spent trying to rescue a club that should have been helping him win.
Imagine Bruno Fernandes producing his numbers and delivering his performances for Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Imagine those goals, assists, chances created and match-winning contributions in a team that consistently competes for league titles and the Champions League.
With that level of individual production and the collective success those clubs can offer, he could have won three Ballon d’Ors.
At Manchester United, his individual brilliance is too often buried beneath the club’s failures.
At a club consistently competing for the biggest trophies, those same performances could become part of a legacy defined by both individual excellence and collective success.
And that brings me back to Harry Kane.
For years, Kane was judged by Tottenham’s inability to win major trophies. He moved to Bayern Munich, found himself in a different environment, and his story took another turn.
Bruno deserves the opportunity to discover what his own story could look like outside Manchester United.
I genuinely hope he leaves at the end of this season and joins a club that can give him the platform, the teammates and the competitive environment his talent deserves.
Not because he has failed Manchester United.
Because Manchester have failed to give Bruno Fernandes the team his greatness deserves.
He has given this club his best years. He has carried the responsibility, endured the criticism and continued to produce.
He deserves to know what it feels like to play for a team where winning major trophies is the objective every season, not a distant dream.
I want Bruno to win league titles. I want him to lift the Champions League. I want him to compete for the biggest individual honours without having to carry an entire institution on his shoulders.
One day, I want Bruno Fernandes to look back on his career and realize that he didn't waste his prime trying to save a club that couldn't save his.
He deserves more than individual statistics in a struggling team.
He deserves a winning legacy.
And I hope he gets to build it somewhere else.
ON MANCHESTER UNITED’S CURRENT TROUBLES. @ManUtd 📌📌📌
Bruno Fernandes @B_Fernandes8 has been our best player since COVID-19, and no one has come close in terms of his commitment and love for the club. He cannot suddenly become the public enemy number one just because he spoke up.
Yes, he is the skipper, but he is a human being too. No amount of attacks from the management, the coach, the ex-players, and the fans can change the guy's history with the club.
Something is definitely wrong with the team, and a lot is going on in the dressing room, and Michael Carrick has lost the dressing room.
Yes, the skipper stepped out of line, but is he the one who said they shouldn't buy good players after qualifying for the @ChampionsLeague??? Is he the one not allowing the other players to make the effort and win matches?
They have to sack the manager because they cannot get rid of all the players. I stand with Bruno Fernandes even though they are trying to throw him under the bus.
I don’t think there’s a version of this club, no matter how ugly it gets, in which I could ever turn my back on Bruno Fernandes.
They can question him, slander him, spend years pretending not to see what I see in him, but I’ll be here till the wheels fall off, till the very end, loving him just as much as I do now.
This genuinely makes me angry.
Bruno Fernandes, our captain, and Lisandro Martínez have both been willing to speak openly about the problems at Manchester United, both find themselves dropped.
And what frustrates me most is watching supporters, pundits and sections of the media turn on players who are prepared to question what's happening at our football club.
Why is it always easier to attack the players than demand accountability from the people making the decisions?
Bruno and Martínez aren't the reason Manchester United have been allowed to decline for years.
Senator Nwoye took out time to counsel him and the team publicly
Imagine N10billion budgetted for CCTV and street light, just like NDDC
APC/APGA Anambra e rats abused him and ridiculed him
Did they heed his good counsel ?
These guys think we all have amnesia
Now, they want us to shush up and watch iberiberically, so that SEDC will become like NDDC
NDDC in almost 3 decades wasted over $40billion awarding street light contracts and chasing shadows , while their major East West Road stood abandoned and uncompleted ...
Every single kobo appropriated to the SEDC belong to Ndi Igbo of the SE
We deserve the best and demand for it
Anyone, who is not pleased with our sincere and honest advocacy and demand for the best for Ala Igbo, can go and hug the nearest transformer
We remain resolute
Guys, I was being a gentleman... but some Arsenal fans are getting too comfortable
You finally won the war after 22 years of banter 😂🏆
Now let's start another 50 years of banter about the Big Ears Cup
