One glaring (sorry) mistake in this article is the spot location. Joan Vickers sited study used 2 groups. I group marked with the dot on top, the other with the dot at the rear scrim, still visible from address. The later group had surprisingly better “quiet eye” success.
Most golfers are guilty of allowing their eyes to dart in all directions when standing over a putt.
This drill will get you to focus in a way that leads to making more putts: https://t.co/xQH2aidSuX
@rossmacleodputt Agreed! My lesson plan included a folding pocket mirror. Laid flat it gave great input for 1. Eye over the line 2. Clubface square to the line 3. Standing up a little down line it revealed clubhead level to the surface. It was a great tool.
@rossmacleodputt@CoombeGlen Ross I just did some research and in fact my memory is accurate. Joan Vickers had two groups using the line/dot. The alternate group used the rear scrim / line optional and the control group used the top of the ball for dot location. Rear location was the winner she wrote.
@rossmacleodputt@CoombeGlen Originally the boat anchor text on Quiet Eye the author suggested that the dot be visible at the rear scrim of the ball. So I tend to use the line for aim but have the full dot fully visible.
@rossmacleodputt@mccall1902 Only during a clinic after discussing the pre-shot routine. It was more like 24’ and the crowd went wild, including the host PGA Head.
@rossmacleodputt Sadly most golfers have not gotten to proper Posture Grip & Alignment! Once this is learned the game changes! My record student improved from 105 to 85 in just 8 weeks! She spent just 30 minutes with me!
@rossmacleodputt So many of my students returned and only wanted to talk about how their full swing games had improved after my setup using PGA!
That’s Posture Grip & Alignment!
@rossmacleodputt I’ve used “ghost holes” but with a twist. Mine have point of entry markers for breaking putts. Cost is cheap but the training is important.
@rossmacleodputt@rossmacleodputt 1 hr is excellent. BUT… let’s make sure each and every stroke is performed with a full preshot routine! Use your hands, pickup and place the ball in position. Use your head/eyes from address to trace the line to entry point! Preshot Routine is the winner!
@rossmacleodputt Please add “Pre-shot Routine” to your practice! Train the brain to react to what is seen during this exercise. My prescription is twice weekly practice for 4 weeks. My students averaged 4 stroke handicap improvement in just one month. Practice with a purpose!
