Terrible earthquake in Burma today. People need help. Governments and agencies wishing to help the people of Burma following the earthquake must understand that there are multiple administrations in the country as people resist Burmese military occupation. Assistance should not be limited only to Burmese military occupied areas.
The majority of Burma is no longer under the control of the Burmese military. In each area freed from Burmese military occupation there are ethnic revolutionary administrations, local administrations and local civil society networks which need support to assist their populations.
Governments and agencies wishing to help the people of Burma following the earthquake must understand that there are multiple administrations in the country as people resist Burmese military occupation. Assistance should not be limited only to Burmese military occupied areas.

The devastating 7.7 magnitude #earthquake that struck #Myanmar yesterday has intensified needs in a country already facing an alarming #humanitarian crisis.
The UN and partners are mobilizing teams and support to address urgent needs.
Amnesty International’s Montse Ferrer warned the military may block aid to resistance-held areas, saying it has politicized aid since the 2021 coup. “The military has a history of denying aid where resistance is active—we fear this will continue.”
