Each sticker is charged shs.220/ on every bottle of beverage, a bag of sugar is charged shs.39/, bag of cement shs.323/, each kilo of clothes shs.50/
"The company producing those stickers is a Swiss company."
Now are Ugandans gaining or we are feeding some people.
BREAKING? 🤔
Ehhh! 🇺🇬🤔 According to claims attributed to PSST Ramathan Ggoobi (@rggoobi ), Uganda’s current economic squeeze was deliberately engineered after intelligence reports allegedly indicated that there was too much money circulating in the economy.
The argument is that Ugandans were spending recklessly 🫣filling bars even on Mondays, buying small plots of land and cars, giving out money, and fundraising for weddings. All this was reportedly viewed as dangerous to the economy.
The situation is allegedly expected to persist for almost a year 🥲 as authorities seek to stabilise money circulation and strengthen the shilling.
Concerns have also been raised about cash disbursements during campaigns by President Museveni , @NRMOnline and former Speaker Anita Among , which some argue could fuel inflation.
BUT HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION: If the government deliberately engineered this economic squeeze to control money in circulation, why must ordinary Ugandans bear the burden through a high cost of living, scarce dollars and increasingly difficult business conditions? 🤔
Are we stabilising the economy, or are we simply making life harder for the ordinary citizen while the politically connected remain comfortable?
Ugandans deserve economic stability, yes -but they also deserve transparency, accountability and an explanation of the real causes of this hardship. 🇺🇬
@BruceMusimenta@rggoobi It's gonna be beyond a year until we shall learn to trust our own Ugandans who start up factories and manufacture important things here.
This madness of someone proclaiming as he has 10,000 boda bodas but can't even manufacture one spoke or a brake pad should be abadoned.
@BruceMusimenta@rggoobi A man of 5 children has been buying 2kgs of beans at 3000 @kg that's 6000, but now he must buy one kg at 7500.
So he must reduce his spending in which way exactly?
@BruceMusimenta@rggoobi At times I listen to the so called leaders and I pity this country.
You want a poor man to cut his expenses but you the ones spending his taxes are widening your spending.
Hon. @mukulaa, you remind me of a statement once made by Buganda’s Katikkiro, @cpmayiga. When some Baganda complained that certain tribes in Uganda did not love them, he challenged them with a simple question that, Before complaining that other tribes do not love you, do you Baganda love one another?
This raises a similar question about your argument. Yes, Africa-US relations should be guided by mutual respect, however, do Africans themselves treat one another with mutual respect? Do our leaders respect the sovereignty of other African nations? How are African leaders treating the citizens of their countries?
We cannot demand from others what we are unwilling to practice among ourselves. Respect is reciprocal, and our call for a respectful relationship with the United States and other nations can carry moral weight if we demonstrate the same respect in our own dealings.
