@MaraHolmes_ I know exactly how you feel. These are scary times indeed.
But take some comfort in the fact that you are not alone.
Personally i think I'll take a stand like the wolverines in Red Dawn. 🏳️⚧️
Bletchley codebreaker, 103, kept his incredible wartime heroics secret for decades - now he finally breaks his silence. Amazing story! @bletchleypark

I lost her Sarah @KokeshiMoon passed away last night.
I am devastated. She was the best part of me.
She kept me grounded and even though our marriage plans didn't pan out. I still love her and she loved me. She still wanted to live with me. She still loved me and I love her.
This post is for anyone interested who has suffered a life changing accident / injury/ chronic illness / long term mobility problems.

This is my introduction to the Armed Forces Champion at Darlington Job Centre.
For anyone just starting to follow my now torturous Novello !! 😉
It includes everything that has led me to now and is the job hunting story and background to why, I am where I am this morning:
Good morning and great to hear from you.
I’ll quickly let you know what has led to me having to ask for help, as I said to your colleagues.
I feel very ashamed that it’s come to this, particularly when I spent 16 years as a Personnel Support Officer for hundreds of people, overseas and in the UK, looking after their welfare concerns and signposting them to support services and military charities.
It feels very ironic that a chain of events has led to this.
I was medically disabled from the RAF in 2013, with osteoarthritis in my neck, lower spine, hips caused by injuries sustained representing the RAF at sport, as well as an accident in basic training.
I took a break of 3 years from 2013 to 2016, where I tried to adjust back to civilian life and had multiple medical interventions, consultant appointments and learnt how to operate while relying on strong pain relief. Nevertheless, I did have a part time job, 16 hours per week, helping in a picture framing shop in Harrogate.
Moved with husband to Norfolk and was employed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, which was and is my dream organisation to work with.
Lots more moving around, I had to leave the role I loved, but spent 2 years doing a research masters (history). So, I didn’t need to claim anything.
I did paid research work for a LGBTQ charity who were part of a Government enquiry into the historical discharge of LGBTQ personnel from the military, before 2000.
Fortunately, I was then employed a second time with the CWGC as an Accessibility Coordinator for all the 23,000 sites. The role was from 2022 to 2025 when I was made redundant from the job.
Unfortunately, the redundancy coincided with a serious accident I had in Scotland while walking, this accident is the cause of me needing a blue badge, PIP and mobility aids (crutches) to get around.
I’m in constant pain, but it’s manageable, working from home, hybrid work are my only real options at the moment. There is significant nerve damage to my right leg and foot, I can’t stand for longer than 15 minutes, before my leg and foot swell and pain levels increase.
I have been actively searching for employment since April 25, but seriously on a daily basis since November 2025 and have had multiple (25 or so) interviews, all un successful, hundreds of hours spent preparing research for interviews, searching for suitable roles, completing applications, attending interviews , rejection after rejection and it has completely broken me.
I’m registered with Veterans Support Employment Charity
I have applied for support roles with all of the big military charities and some of the smallest ones.
I have so much experience of counselling, welfare support, casework management, Infrastructure management, corporate communications etc and also safeguarding, signposting process.
I’m registered on all the career portals, COBSEO, North East Jobs, Heritage Organisations, Historical Charities, Environmental Charities, everywhere I have applied, I have registered on the career portal.
I think I need help reorganising my CV and how I draft letters, complete application forms. Either way, hundreds of rejection emails has broken me.
That’s me and where I think I need tailored support, I just don’t seem to have the ability or enthusiasm to continue to be positive about the application process that takes up to 40 hours each week. I am very down and anxious.
So that’s me and the journey that has led me here.
If you can offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
The same applies to all of you kind folks.
I’m 52 , disabled , sound posh, but I’m definitely not.
I look like Jenny Agutter in the Railway Children !
