It’s hard to write this, but here goes: Pyre Magazine will be closing down at the end of this month.
Despite my hopes to reopen submissions and expand, the truth is that I simply don’t have the time, energy, or resources to keep it going.

Until then, thank you to everyone who submitted, shared, created, and believed in what we were building. You helped make something special. — Ryan Thomas LaBee Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Pyre Magazine
I've already posted my wishlist for the Weird Horror call I'm co-editing over at Flash Fiction Online.
What if I now post a *vibes* wishlist in the form of classical paintings 👁🫀🔪
Well, serial/prolific plagiarist John Kucera is at it again. We received a submission titled "Twilight Mind," after a quick Google search, it's easy to find that the story is a word-for-word copy of a @spacevalkyries story titled "Emotional Resonance." Be vigilant editors.
@PyreMagazine@spacevalkyries "From the Tweet thread, it seemed that Kucero was the alias and John's real last name is Siepkes, but don't quote me on that."

@avramargariti@spacevalkyries It's hard to say… I'm not even sure if it's his real name (or if they even identify as “him” in their personal life), but “John” included an address and phone number with his submission. I can't for the life of me figure out what the intentions or end game is here.
@spacevalkyries Of course. I'm so sorry this happened to you and continues to happen to others. Don't let it discourage you. Let it fuel you to continue writing and submitting. Clearly, this plagiarising loser doesn't have a fraction of the talent as you or the others he continues to steal from.
Anyway please go read the original. It has two giant queer robots falling in love and just trying to exist under dystopian space capitalism.
It's a piece that has a lot of my gender feelings and means a lot to me so it being plagiarized feels bad.

@PyreMagazine are on hiatus until at least Spring 2025.
Ryan Thomas LaBee, rest, look after yourself & family.
I've shared your announcement on a couple of writing discords so people know.
