If you're a reader, the Qweshunga book bar @QBookBar has opened up just for you. And you can even order a glass (or bottle) of your favorite wine while at it. It's the perfect passtime in the most beautiful space! Check it out off Kigobe Road, Ntinda, next to Arch Apartments.
To everyone who joined us for the launch of the Qweshunga Book Bar, we are deeply grateful.
What began as an idea for a space where books, stories and community could meet came alive because you showed up.
Thank you!
Some People Build Houses. I Build Trouble.
Construction is messy, dust finds its way into places it has no business being, budgets collapse under the weight of reality, walls develop opinions, service providers test your faith and timelines become creative suggestions. At some point, every construction site starts looking less like a dream and more like a very expensive mistake. And yet, every single time, I find myself unable to resist the urge to build new things.
Perhaps it is a character flaw, or hope dressed up as stubbornness. The truth is that I have always been fascinated by the possibility of creating spaces that did not exist before. Places where people can become more of themselves. Places where community happens by accident, where healing sneaks up on you while you are busy doing something else.
The @QBookBar is one such place.
For as long as memory serves me, I have dreamed of a quiet place where one could get lost in books and be found in many other things.
A place where you arrive looking for a novel and leave with a new friend, where you come seeking silence and discover courage, where a random conversation over coffee changes the direction of your life.A place where reading is not an individual act of consumption but a collective act of imagination.
That dream now has a physical address hidden somewhere between Ntinda and Kyambogo road, At first glance, it is a library, but that description feels painfully incomplete because libraries have often been presented to us as places to store books. We wanted to create a place that releases them. We wanted to create something different. A slower, softer, human space. A space for you to sit quietly and dream loudly.
For years, through @qweshunga , we have invited adults to play again. To reconnect with forgotten parts of themselves, to remember that joy is not a luxury, it is a necessity and this Book Bar extends that same invitation. Come, play with ideas, wander through stories, sit by the fireplace, work quietly, colour outside the lines.
My heart is full. Despite the chaos, the uncertainty, the fact that every new project seems determined to humble both my bank account and my blood pressure, I remain convinced that creating spaces where people can gather, learn, imagine, heal, and belong is still one of the most radical things we can do.
Welcome to the Qweshunga Book Bar.
