Today we held a fundraiser for our community. After the devastating events of last week, students made donations throughout the day & the Student Council held a bake sale. We have raised over £1100 for the Kirkby Lonsdale Fire Disaster Impact Support Fund

We are grateful to Professor Alan Rice of @IBAR_UCLan for coming in today to talk to @QESixth Historians about the experience of Black soldiers during WW2 and the Battle of Bamber Bridge.
Yesterday evening was a busy Sixth Form Open Evening - our cardboard Iron Lady got people talking! Great to share our A-Level course. Then straight into the Battle of Hastings this morning, with gasps from Year 7 as a single arrow brought Anglo-Saxon England to an abrupt end.
Join us for the Queen Elizabeth Schools Open Evening on Wednesday 13th November and discover the exciting opportunities that await you in our vibrant sixth form community. https://t.co/a4B5RcCKTY via @YouTube
Top three dramatic moments of the week:
In at 3: Edward VI dies, throwing the Tudor succession into doubt.
At 2: The Great Heathen Army conquers three Saxon kingdoms in a row.
At 1: The fall of Mrs Thatcher, brought down by the words of the gentle, kind Geoffrey Howe.
A packed week! Year 11 embarked on Viking raids; Year 13 held a debate on the New Deal (complete with wig!); and posters are up across school to mark Black History Month.
We are marking #BlackHistoryMonth this week in PD+ and in posters highlighting key figures from history, across every department. If you want to find them all, there are 42!
A great day for ITT training-subject focus for our secondary trainees and all about maths for our primary trainees! @QES_History @NNWMathsHub @carlisleSD#pgce#teacher#SCITT
Year 7 are currently learning the story of Aethelflaed. How did she repel the Vikings? Why has her story been forgotten? The book is also a new addition to the library @QESEngLib
Well done to our Year 10 and 12 pupils who have made an excellent start to their courses - above all embodying the school value of working hard and doing their best!

The Year 8s had a great day yesterday in Belgium and then made their way to the accommodation in France.
They visited several WWI memorial sites and found some names of past QES boys who died in WW1. A very moving day for all.
Well done to the Year 8 and Year 9 students who delivered presentations for St Mary's Y5 and Y6 pupils, sharing their learning about Anne Frank and how children can stand up to hatred and be voices for equality today. Well done everyone!
