I wrote for @Refinery29 about the ugly side of stan culture, the discouragement towards critical thinking in fear of getting attacked, and more specifically - the cyberterrorism towards Black women in K-pop fandoms.

Also not to dogpile but since we seem to be taking criticism, having a team of 40 year old men telling you what your music should sound like as a woman in your mid 20s is very likely one of the reasons for the lack of direction
The wildest part about POVERTY is how much time it steals. Waiting for buses. Calling assistance offices. Comparing grocery prices. Fighting insurance. Sitting at laundromats. Being poor is a second job nobody pays you for.
Everyone is rightfully focused on Black-girl representation, but other POC should be mad too. Why is the Asian “representation” Wasian? Why is the Latin “representation” white-passing? Disney could’ve gotten away with diverse casting if they weren’t scared of ACTUAL BROWN PEOPLE.
Years of sweat and tears to get this movie done. It was the most daunting thing that I've ever undertaken. If you have the chance and mean, please watch it and enjoy the fruit of our labour. You won't be disappointed with this jam packed hand-drawn animation of a movie.
She was a 25 year old lawyer in Ayacucho, Peru when her boyfriend attacked her in a hotel in July 2015. The security cameras captured everything. Him chasing her. Dragging her by the hair. Her screaming for help while hotel staff tried to intervene. The court watched the footage.
Then sentenced him to one year suspended for minor injuries. The more serious charges - dropped. She refused to accept it. She went public. Put her name and her face to everything. Took the fight to the media, to the courts, to the streets. On August 13 2016 half a million Peruvians marched through Lima. The largest demonstration in the history of Peru. Led by her.
The appeals court threw out the original verdict. He was retried. Convicted of attempted f3micide. Sentenced to 11 years in prison. She went on to become a member of Congress. Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Her name is Arlette Contreras. And she was just getting started.
I still DO NOT understand how so many of you were hoodwinked into believing the government should not use the money you pay in taxes to create a social safety net that benefits you, fund public healthcare, lower housing costs, and make daily life more affordable.
I remember the first time I watched this scene I actually started tearing up a bit. It touched such a deep wound that I’m sure many of us have experienced without being able to properly explain it
The kiss happened in Sydney in August 2023. In front of cameras. In front of her teammates. In front of the world. She said it wasn't consensual. Immediately. Publicly. Without hesitation. What happened next was designed to break her.
The Spanish football federation closed ranks around him. Former teammates were pressured to support his version of events. His allies called her a liar. His mother locked herself in a church and went on hunger strike in protest at how her son was being treated. D3ath threats arrived at Jenni's door. She didn't change her story. She filed a criminal complaint. Testified in court. Sat in front of a judge and described exactly what had happened to her on the happiest day of her career.
Luis Rubiales resigned in disgrace. Was banned from football by FIFA. In February 2025 a Spanish court found him guilty of s3xual a55ault. The judge ruled that a non-consensual kiss is s3xual a55ault. Period. She held her ground against an institution that tried to destroy her. And the institution fell. Her name is Jenni Hermoso. And she never changed her story once.
Having grown up in many situations where I was the only black girl amongst non-blacks, it’s actually a lot less about them murdering you and a lot more about them not actually giving a fuck if you’re in a dangerous situation.
The latter is scarier cause they will watch you drown and go back to partying.
We are deeply disturbed by the racist and Islamophobic attack targeting hijabi Muslim women, as well as the physical assault and hateful slurs directed at a Muslim man at Halifax Costco this past weekend.
We are in contact with those affected and with Halifax Regional Police.
No one should face hate or fear while simply grocery shopping with their family.
We call on all elected officials in Nova Scotia and Canada to publicly condemn this incident and to take concrete actions to formulate a national strategy against this massive rise in violent Islamophobia in recent months.
We also thank the bystander who intervened against the man, and the Costco security staff who acted to remove the individual.
First of all this article is excellent — please read!
In times like these I think Black people need to be more strategic about showing what we know if our intelligence is going to be considered a "disease"
i love this woman so much i could cry, white ppl never think abt this kind of thing but ive thought abt this countless times, its the reason they falsely believe black ppl (esp women n children) have a higher pain tolerance
She's not a "Karen." She rightfully stepped in in defense of anothe being made uncomfortable by a robot programmed by WHITE men to simulate sexual inappropriatness, using the voice of BLACK men from viral memes, they had it curse at her as their proxy.
This is digital harassment.
