The Queensland Water Regional Alliance Program (QWRAP) create opportunities for collaboration between Queensland's water and sewerage service providers.
Great news! The Central Qld Regional Organisation of Councils agreed at their recent meeting to become a QWRAP pilot region. Joint projects and a review of regional water and sewerage services will commence in the new year.
COVID combined with a shortage of water and.sewerage operators is a real risk for regional communities. #collaboration can help, but operators need to be classed as critically essential workers.
Is the Queensland water sector ready for a COVID incursion?
The short answer is no. The complete answer is more complicated.

Congratulations to the @QWRAP1 Wide Bay Burnett Urban Water Alliance for being a finalist for the @AustralianWater Infrastructure Project Innovation Award (Regional) 2021. This long-running project a tribute to all staff involved and the program managers at @FraserCoastRC.

Great to see a commitment to water and sewerage in the DRDMW portfolio and the opportunities it creates for strategic and planned investment - hopefully including region-wide approaches.
Building Our Regions has already funded successful water supply improvements across our State, from Weipa to Warwick and Toowoomba to the Tablelands.
This funding shows our commitment to water security at every level of the water supply system.
@GlennButcherMP Great to see this in the DRDMW portfolio with a strong commitment to water and sewerage and planned investment (hopefully including region-wide approaches).
The latest quarterly @QWRAP newsletter has updates on the commencement of a new Water Alliance (@swqroc), the North Qld biosolids research partnership, and the highly successful recent training hub project in FNQ: https://t.co/T4C8aauQCo.
Thanks to Goondiwindi Regional Council for hosting the QWRAP Technical Group yesterday. Lots of changes happening in this water-challenged region but the councils are working together on optimal responses.
Congratulations to the @swqroc Mayors who leveraged strong existing partnerships to accelerate #QWRAP collaboration, agreeing to form a Water and Sewerage Alliance during their meeting at Charleville last week.
Good to see the latest #QWRAP project well underway: https://t.co/CrrGLq7sN2. This is a first-off #waterindustry partnership involving multiple Qld councils and JCU and was enabled through #AdvanceQld and #QWRAP support.
Thanks to Blackall-Tambo Regional Council for hosting the Water and Sewerage meeting for the @RAPADCWQ group this week. Our first #QWRAP group is still punching above their weight with wide-ranging strategic discussions about water collaboration.
The draft PC review has been released and provides some new and well-informed views on water reform and regionalisation. See the updated #qwrap summary of national reviews at https://t.co/11PPK1OPC7.
