What's suggested below is that fratricide was "codified with a Fatwa and encouraged to the extent that a father would tell his sons to kill each other"

For years certain authors intentionally misinterpreted and spread propaganda about the Ottomans, distorting our understanding of history, and lazy authors perpetuated these falsehoods by relying on such information.

Let's examine the relevant pages from the Ottoman Kanunname (Code of Law) that address this issue. These documents are considered primary sources (or copies thereof).

First important point to note is that the relevant article is placed under the chapter: Umur-ı Saltanata müteallik tertib-ü ayin beyanındadır (The arrangement of affairs related to the Sultanate...)

This is important because it disqualifies what follows as "hukmi" and it becomes an administrative matter, rather than legal enactments in the "shar’i" sense.

So what follows concerns the matters or affairs that relate to the order of the Sultanate only.

The pertinent clause in the Kanunname translates as follows:

"To whomever from among my sons the Sultanate is bestowed (if they rebel against your authority) then it is appropriate to maintain the order of the (Muslim) world (nizam-i alem) by executing (even) your brothers (in that situation). Numerous Scholars have approved this. Let them act accordingly."

There is nothing here to suggest that a crown prince, upon assuming the Sultanate, should immediately murder their own kin. This applies only in cases of rebellion. This particular clause was understood in this manner by Ottoman scholars, based on the preceding articles and the heading under which it is placed. This is also why it is stated that "numerous 'ulema" have approved this. Where are the numerous ulema who have approved the killing of newborns by newly crowned Sultans? If you make such a claim, then you will need to produce such evidence.

Here, I have attempted to explain the relevant ruling that was put in place at that time. Some Sultans did engage in certain acts after assuming the crown that (I would say) transgressed Islamic rulings. You can talk about that specifically without falsely claiming that those acts were legislated.
