That is funny...just got my daughter a 2017 Escape for 2800. 190K miles but reliable. Daughters college is less than 2 miles from our house and she decided to stay with us, but we had a one bedroom in a duplex lined up about 30 minutes outside of our city for 950 a month. It takes time to research and talk to person after person. I find it is easier to get a deal when you are standing in front of someone rather than online. Online you are a number, in person you are a human talking to them.

I actually wound up paying more for daycare because I pulled my daughter since the center was not prohibiting sick children (thrush, coupe, etc). I was paying about 750 a month but I got an in-house sitter and had to pay 1100 monthly. It sucked. Couldn't do anything really with my wife. At that time, we had bought our cars, both used for a total of 2200. They were 16 years old but reliable. Insurance...after Obama, didn't have it. We paid cash and thank the lord didn't have serious issues.

Two kids. One going to college this fall. And yes, I know what daycare cost. When I made 44k a year it ate 1/3 of my income.

Medical is another story. I had a great plan until Obama fucked that up three ways from Sunday. Then paid cash and hoped nothing serious happened.

All meals were/are cooked at home. Lunch is meal prep.

If I can't pay cash for something, I didn't get it. (Or completely pay off my card at the end of the month)

My Phones were/are 5 to 8 years old when I buy them

Cars were 6+ years old bought used. I literally just bought my first brand new car about a month ago.

I gave up convenience for practicality. I still do. My Kids call me scroodge but my daughter now understands now that she is able to go to college.
