🫖 Well… #LoveO2O is somehow back from the dead in China. For those who remember… the drama was a huge hit back in 2016 before being taken off Chinese platforms after female lead #ZhengShuang was blacklisted in 2021. And apparently the solution was to AI replace her face throughout the drama with actress #WangZhuyue… and now it’s back on Youku in China.

So basically the same drama, same #YangYang, same scenes, just a completely different face on the FL. Cnetz are a little weirded out by the result though, with quite a few saying the new face and original body just don’t quite look like they belong together 😭

The most brand endorsements on Cent, no. 2 and the rest are always reshuffled and changing faces, but No. 1 is still the same face for the past few years, and that's #WangYibo. Why? The key is long-term collaboration and contract renewals. Of course, not all brands collaborate for long periods, but Wang Yibo is one of the best when it comes to collaboration longevity, quality, and quantity on Cent. How many artists get lots of endorsements but also lose them quickly? Five endorsements come in, five endorsements go out, and the process happens in a short time.

From Wang Yibo, we can learn that collaborations between artists and brands can last a long time even if they don't always top fan engagement and fan votes on social media. After 2024, Wang Yibo hasn't had any dramas/films air, he's an actor with very minimal fanservice, and he already has many endorsements. Logically, brands should be rethinking extending contracts and forming new partnerships, but what happened? His old brands even came back to collaborate again when there were many other hyped actors to choose from. Why? Even agencies can't help the artist if the brand itself is reluctant to extend the contract and start a new partnership.

High fan engagement and endorsement votes on social media are of course great and something to be proud of. There's happiness in seeing our idol rank high in social media endorsement data. But there's another fact: it turns out high social media engagement & fan votes, being hyped because of a successful drama/film, and good sales aren't enough to make brands want to collaborate with that artist. Why? Only the artist and the brand know.
