Paint Peeling: Causes and Solutions

One of the most common defects seen in buildings is paint peeling.

Many homeowners blame the paint manufacturer, but in reality, peeling paint is often a symptom of an underlying problem.

If the root cause is not addressed, repainting alone will not solve the issue.

What is Paint Peeling?

Paint peeling occurs when the paint film loses adhesion to the surface and begins to lift, crack, blister, or fall off the wall.

This can happen on both interior and exterior walls.

Common Causes of Paint Peeling

Dampness in the wall

Solution 7: Use Good Quality Paint

Low-quality paint may save money initially but often leads to early failure.

Choose paint suitable for the intended environment.

Interior paint should be used indoors.

Exterior paint should be used outdoors.

Solution 8: Allow New Plaster to Cure

Freshly plastered walls should not be painted immediately.

The wall should be allowed sufficient curing and drying time.

Painting too early traps moisture inside the wall and often leads to peeling.
