My article in The Friend about Quaker Chaplaincy is showing that we need to do more explanation for @BritishQuakers
Links in the Video.
A Call to Chaplaincy- are British Quakers ready to show up? (Can we cool off on the protest and PR?)

@CapelLofft It sounds ridiculous but why not like all four “great traditions”?
I love bacon, guacamole, curry and ice cream… but each have their place.
@Frances_Coppola Our local M&S has just closed after 90 years in the town.
I suppose your argument that they have had unisex changing rooms since 2019 and to buy online instead are key factors in this.
Would you see these developments as related? I know that older customers are devastated.
I’ve seen it work. Yes we can have those three options, in fact four in terms of toilets for the disabled accces to be separated.
Let’s do it! As long as there are women only spaces protected for biological sex then there’s no problem with the other options designed for dignified alternatives as desired.
I’ve seen it work in places already. No fuss.
I would say that all religious people are convinced or suspect they are atheist at some point and it really doesn’t make any difference.
One response would be “Don’t worry if you don’t believe in God, cos God believes in you!”
Hard to believe how common this is but just keep turning up.
@HiddenYorkshire Yes. I would suggest lower your expectations of an equal playing field. It’s not necessary. Find a 5% connection with someone and accept it for what it is. 20 connections and you’ve got a blueprint for a very connected life.
Can I also suggest Catherine that when you are especially high energy, high intelligence, high curiosity- then you might find a lot of people boring, uninteresting and shallow. This is something people notice (unsurprisingly) and limits connections.
However… if you can accept that one small aspect of life is something you and this one person share an interest in then you can start to shift your perspective and expectations of each one on one relationship.
I also find that people expect their friends to agree with them
100% on everything which is simply impossible. And for those of us who refuse to lie or to refuse to just go along to keep the peace then such friendships just go nowhere.
Above all, what I have found is that the deep, ongoing friendships are found in spiritual communities and nowhere else.
This is such a central and important point.
Without our children knowing our hymns and seasonal songs we have ended up with no shared cultural references.
You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.
All those you’ve named are absolutely classic and such fundamental lessons for life. All Things Bright and Beautiful. We plough the fields and scatter …
Etc
Etc
What a tragedy.
@HiddenYorkshire This place reminded me of Victoria Arch in the woods behind Beckett campus. Have you ever done a video of that? It’s the most peculiar monument to come across in some woods.
Yes I agree. It’s ridiculous that we know nothing of the other languages not even the basic pronunciation.
It wouldn’t take much at the right age in childhood to absorb the basics.
Every school in England should have Welsh, Cornish, Gaelic or Irish as compulsory subjects. The pre-English languages are part of our shared heritage in the UK and should be treasured by us all.
@drhingram That is such a good point … it’s made me stop. Which is no bad thing.
Everyone I’m irritated by is closed minded.
Of course.
I don’t mind that they are wrong or misguided or stupid.
But their closed minded unwillingness to tolerate a different viewpoint is infuriating.
Discover the old Cornish name of #CometoGood#Quaker meeting house.
Using #Welsh it became obvious to me. Now looking for evidence and expertise to back me up.
Cwm Ty Cwrdd - the real 1710 #Kernowek name of 'Come to Good' meeting house, Truro, #Cornwall.

Peter Pool’s 1971 Introduction to Cornish Place names gives me hope that I’m on the right track.
Please comment on my YouTube comments if you’re interested. The local community hadn’t heard of this theory before and nowhere online does anyone state this origin.
@JacotheNorth Why is that the punchline for a Welsh location is always Upper Cwmtwrch?
I remember the Eynons bus driver asking in Victoria station- where to you going?
(Cwmtwrch? Upper or lower? )
Now which Welsh comedian has started this ? Any ideas ?
Yes I wish he would agree to speak with you. Why don’t people just talk to those they disagree with? I just don’t understand cancel culture at all.
I enjoy reading your posts and value your perspective. Some things I agree with you and others I’m not so convinced.
Thanks for speaking out
@HiddenYorkshire And have you got the hang of it now? You look like you’re doing a great job and the outputs are wonderful but we don’t see what goes on behind the scenes.
