[anand mahindra @anandmahindra]

A friend recently asked me which digital payments app I was using.

When I told her, she promptly asked, “Why not use BHIM, our very own Indian app?”

I admitted I didn’t know much about it.

“Well, let me introduce you to someone you’ll enjoy meeting.”

That someone was Dilip Asbe, MD & CEO of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

Dilip kindly agreed to come over for a chat.

That conversation was illuminating, to put it mildly.

We all know the payment apps we use every day. PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM…

But think of them as trains running on a railway network.

NPCI provides the tracks.

And what an extraordinary railway India has built!

In September, UPI alone processed over 2,400 crore transactions. That’s more than 80 crore transactions every single day!

India is now the world’s largest real-time payments market. A true global force multiplier.

And Dilip has been one of the key people behind that remarkable achievement.

His mind is buzzing with plans to build more ‘railroads’ that will enable new apps in wider financial spheres.

But here’s what struck me most about him.

Not the scale of his achievement. Not his knowledge of the technology.

His humility.

Dilip is well known in financial & technology circles. But I met a man with no airs, no sense of self-importance & seemingly little interest in the spotlight.

Just immense pride in what his team has accomplished & a genuine sense of privilege at being able to serve his country.

I also learned that his mother was a teacher.

Perhaps I’m biased, but I’ve always believed that mothers who are teachers have a special knack for instilling values that last a lifetime. And I couldn’t help wondering if that explained something about Dilip’s grounded personality.

People like him derive their satisfaction not from being seen, but from seeing their work make a difference.

Thank you, Dilip, for the conversation. And for reminding me that ambition & humility can indeed travel together on the railroad to success.

And I’ve switched to the BHIM app now!

🚨 BIG ATTACK ON RAHUL GANDHI BY BJP

"Rahul Gandhi once again presented a PPT from UNKNOWN, CONSPICUOUS, and DUBIOUS sources. He has NO KNOWLEDGE of Indian politics."

– Out of Tamil Nadu since 1967 (BJP didn't even exist then)
– Out of Bengal since 1977
– Out of UP since 1989
– Out of Bihar since 1990
– Out of Odisha since 1999

🗣️ "Ever since TRANSPARENT ELECTIONS have taken place, CCTV cameras have come in, and independent media has arrived, Congress has started finding it DIFFICULT to come to power."

[JHOOTH KI GOONJ @jhoothkigoonj]

Journalist asks Rahul Gandhi when did he realise Vote Chori was going on.

From Indira Gandhi in 1970s to now, Rahul Gandhi weaved a story.

The correlation between the question and answer is 0.

The same number of seats the Congress Party's NSUI won in DUSU Elections after his "Jhoot Ki Goonj campaign.

Shashi Tharoor gives a reality check 🔥

P. Chidambaram had questioned what India actually gains from BRICS.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor says hosting BRICS in India is a matter of “huge prestige” for Bharat.

[Mahesh Jethmalani @JethmalaniM]

If a senior lawyer-MP is so “ashamed” of living in India today, he should register that shame properly.

Resign from the Rajya Sabha.

Because shame cannot be selective.

Where was this 'national shame' in 2021, when Bengal saw brutal post-poll violence, when people were chased, killed, assaulted, displaced, and women were raped?

Where was this 'shame' when a BJP supporter was chased and killed in front of his own mother?

Where was the 'shame' when the Sandeskhali rape case happened?

Where was the 'shame' when the RG Kar rape case happened?

Where was this 'shame' when you appeared in Calcutta High Court to oppose these victims and resisted CBI transfer of the case?

Where was this constitutional anguish when the Calcutta High Court had to order a CBI probe into murder, rape and crimes against women because victims were crying for justice?

But of course an egg attack on a TMC leader suddenly shakes the soul of democracy.

But the blood, tears and terror of ordinary Bengal victims from 2021 did not produce the same moral thunder.

If you are ashamed of India, resign from the parliament.

If not, spare us the theatre.

Glad to have met Shri Venu Srinivasan Ji and Mr. Sudarshan Venu. I commend them for the effort to chronicle the beauty of Kutch and also encourage motorcyclists to go there.

[TVS Motor Company @tvsmotorcompany]

"It was an honour to call on Honourable Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi Ji.

Presented to him the TVSM x Rann Utsav 2025 Coffee Table Book. In February this year, TVS Motor Company, in partnership with Gujarat Tourism, curated an extraordinary motorcycling experience at Rann Utsav, showcasing the region's culture, landscapes, & heritage, inspired by PM Modi's vision to popularise Kutch as a tourist destination among the youth.

The Coffee Table Book captures Kutch's rich heritage and mesmerising landscapes. Made on the theme of 'Saari Muzaafiri', the book also captures the key spots and destinations in the Rann of Kutch region from dawn till dusk which are a visual treat.

We can say with certainty that Kutch is a motorcyclists delight! Come, bike there...you will be awestruck for life!" - Venu Srinivasan, Chairman Emeritus, TVS Motor Company

Open-sourcing Introspect: MIT-licensed Deep-Research for your internal data!

Works with spreadsheets, databases, PDFs, and web search. Has a remarkably simple architecture – Sonnet agent armed with recursive tool calling and 3 default tools.

Best for use-cases where you want to combine insights from SQL with unstructured data + data from the web.

Launching a bunch of products built on top of of this soon, but wanted to open-source our core engine to give back to the community! 2 min demo below, links in comments

Claude Code just created a fairly complex set of functions (spanning over 6 files) to:

1. let users upload a custom python function (as a string) from HTTP endpoints
2. save them in a DB
3. use them in agentic LLM tasks

It got this right after 3 shots (I just had to keep prompting it out of doom loops). Created new DB tables, tests, new routes, helper functions.

Everything you could ask from a seasoned senior developer. Cost me $1.01, took Claude 5m54s of API calls, and 38mins of wall time (mostly prompting out of doom loops)

Amazing. The software industry (and recurring subscription based business models) are going to change so much this year.

We made a thing! Very happy to announce sqlcoder-pro and the Defog Alignment Platform. Available to use immediately without a wait-list, weights will be open-sourced very soon.

The video does a quick show and tell comparison against ChatGPT (with gpt-4o). Read on for more details!

TLDR
💪 equal (or better) performance on text-to-SQL as the most capable Claude-3.5 or GPT-4 models
🤝 You can use it today on a free plan/free trial, without a waitlist
🪽 self-hostable on a single RTX4090, with 2 second median generation times for SQL queries
🔁 exactly the same output every time, give the same prompt
👨🏻‍🏫 teachable and steerable: show the model what you want it to do
🛞 debuggable – you can understand WTF is going on inside the model, instead of treating it like a black box

Let's dig into each of these one-by-one!

Performance
SQLCoder-8b-pro significantly exceeds the performance of our previous sqlcoder-8b model on Postgres text-to-SQL (from 88.2% to 90.2% accuracy - gpt-4o is at 87.6%, for reference). It is also better at following instructions.

This was done via self-merges, hand crafted fine-tuning data, and adapting the training data to fit our tokenizer.

Cost
You can host this on the model on a single $3,500 RTX4090, and support ~5 requests/second via VLLM.

If you're looking to host on the cloud instead, you can run it on a single L4 GPU that costs $300/mo on GCP

Repeatability
We have a dense 8b model with no MoE shenanigans. For the same prompt with temperature=0, you'll always get the same answer – which is critical in BI.

Teachable
In our alignment and feedback modes, you can give the model feedback on how it answered certain questions, and it will automatically adapt to the feedback.

Debuggable
You can use logprobs and attention scores to determine where, exactly is the model paying attention to inside a prompt + what it's getting confused by when generating outputs.

Available today
You can use Defog on the cloud today by going to docs[dot]defog[dot]ai, and getting an API key.

Excited to hear what you think!

@PChidambaram_IN Dear Mr Chidambaram,
Please implement Rahul Gandhi’s “Khatakhat Scheme “ to your state Karnataka & Himachal Pradesh where Congress is in power. Please start paying Rs 1 Lakh to each woman as you had promised!

[Rishabh Srivastava @rishdotblog]

Wow. gpt-4o crushed all of our evals for text-to-SQL compared to gpt-4-turbo (and gpt-4). Very cool!
