Seriously considered throwing the towel in back in February.
The way I saw it, after years of working hard, sacrifice and moments of success dotted throughout, it shouldn't still be this difficult.
More followers. More collectors. Moments that made it feel like I had "cracked the code!".
But I was painting more to keep up. More ideas. More posts.
Less engagement.
Practically invisible.
Well I'm a stubborn c*nt and I ALWAYS find a way.
It was f*cking terrible trying to paint and the idea in your head wasn't translating on the canvas.
But I think this was a moment of growth. Sometimes it comes gradually, sometimes (this time) you are forced to go through it. I knew if I wanted to keep going, I needed a new vehicle to take me on that journey. That was painting in new ways. Larger canvas. Pallet knives. Drip the paint. Hold the brush right at the tip of the handle so the brush strokes are more loose. Go for vibe over accuracy.
Will people like it? That's not the point entirely. I've discovered new threads to pull on, they lead to new ideas.
May 6th painting release is the BEGINNING of the next chapter.

Preview of just a few pieces from next Wednesdays release.
This is a very mixed collection from the past 3 months and I just want to explain why.
At the beginning of February I was struggling to paint, I was trying to find whatever it was my soul was looking for on the canvas. Some nights I didn't sleep, I would redo paintings over and over, frustrated that whatever it was It wasn't coming together on the canvas.
It sounds weird now, but I thought I had lost the ability to paint. Some times I felt a little insane...
For 5 years I had painted almost every day, releasing new work regularly. Things ticked over but I was burnt out and frustrated with the algorithm burying my efforts. In all honesty it was pretty dark, this isn't a hobby it's my life.
I took a few weeks off this app and got immersed in what I was creating.
I took a trip to a local gallery for inspiration and it did the trick, it was good to speak with someone within the art world, even if only briefly, but it set my sights on a goal, gave me some perspective.
It wasn't a straight line path to overcome the block, but it has definitely been 3 months of growth - mentally and creatively.
This has been HARD WORK.
Some days I felt like giving up.
But the result has been some refreshing work, This release is a collection of my mind over these few months, trying new techniques, learning, and battling through.
I Iook forward to showing the results, I hope you join me!
Full release 6th May. 🔥
An impressionist view of White Roses. Textured layers of acrylic, heavy body paint, applied solely with a pallet knife, creates these decorative pieces, that add a sense of life to a wall.
Up close the paint deconstructs, through each visible application of colour. From a short step back the layers combine to reveal the true nature of the flowers.
Elegant and yet bold.
@5DSoul@TheQuantumB Fast, dextrous fingerwork! 👏👏👏 It sounds familiar but I can't put my finger on it 🤔
Sharing a short jazzy Mandarin tune. It popped into my mind when I was at the beach so I'm accompanied by the beautiful sea. The title means "Fragrance of Roses".
@5DSoul I really wanted to try and ramp up the emotion on this one so I’m pleased it hit with the chills 😊
Thanks for listening and the kind words as always.
@Quantaphonic That is just beautiful Gary. I had chills listening. The lyrics really hit home and I loved the piano part, that gave it such depth and magic. Thank you for sharing it 🤍
Buonasera,
I usually baulk at the idea of sharing old recordings, but couldn’t resist break-ing this out tonight, right on cue for the snooker final this weekend!
As always, do share your art or anything creative to the thread below.
Double kiss 💋💋
The response to these Rose paintings has been a pleasant surprise!
They are something very different for me and came from the frustration I was feeling at the beginning of February (as I explained In a previous post).
I needed to paint something not "as it is".
I've spent a lot of time painting from reference, and it's a skill I've built up over time to draw and paint accurately. Even If I do put my own spin on a referenced photo, it is still 'of something' that exists like that.
These were not the first attempt, there were many frustrating failures that lead to these.
I needed to break away from the detail, and truly loosen up to paint the essence in a pleasing way.
I wasn't sure how people would receive the new style, so I kept them back for a few months but the more I looked at them the more I liked them, and it's really great that others do too!
