Patrice Lumumba became Congo’s first post-independence Prime Minister on 30 June 1960, when Congo gained independence from Belgium after 75 years of colonial rule.
There was chaos within days of him assuming office, forcing Lumumba to set aside his governing agenda and focus on survival. He had to quell a mutiny in the army, invite in more than 10 000 UN peacekeepers and tour nine world capitals to lobby for help.
But after just two and a half months in office, he was overthrown in a CIA-backed coup led by Joseph Mobutu who placed him under house arrest, after the CIA had dispatched poison vials to assassinate him.
Four months later, he was shot dead by Congolese assassins in the Congolese countryside
Contrary to popular belief, Patrice Lumumba was not pro-Communist, he actually had greater affinity for the United States than the Soviet Union
According to the book The Lumumba Plot: The Secret History of the CIA and a Cold War Assassination by Stuart A. Reid, Lumumba was neither a naive victim nor a flawless hero, but a brilliant politician with not so good statesmanship.
In any case, the US destabilisation of the Congo under Lumumba became a model for future meddling in Cuba, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and post-1979 Iran.
This is not a detainment camp in World War II, nor a prison in the Holocaust, this is Gaza. A chilling reminder that history repeats.
A holocaust is happening right before our eyes and the world is silent
SA loves lecturing on human rights, but its "Rainbow Nation" is bleeding from violent xenophobia.
Instead of taking responsibility, Justice Minister @MamolokoKubayi falls back on the oldest hate.
While openly admitting she has "no evidence," she desperately spins wild conspiracies to mask government panic over a repeat of 2021.
Shameful scapegoating. No accountability.

Lil Wayne just missed the opening night of his own tour and you imbeciles were whining why he ain’t getting a Super Bowl halftime show at this point in his career LMAOOOOO
i need people to stop pretending this is a controlled effort to remove undocumented immigrants. it isn’t. mobs don’t verify anything. they don’t distinguish between documented and undocumented, or even south african and foreign nationals.
Targeting a Tsonga family, using derogatory slurs, and violating a young woman's dignity by dragging her out of the shower naked is purely evil. This isn’t a "protest against undocumented immigrants" it is tribalism, xenophobia, and misogyny masquerading as activism.
If you believe that an ex-radio presenter, a failed ex-radio DJ and failed actor managed to pull this off by themselves, I have the Nelson Mandela Bridge to sell you. Mossad and CIA fingerprints are all over this thing but ingxaki some of yall don't read history!
