As promised, I will be sharing my own family history.
1/ My maternal great-grandmother (she was 14 years old at the time) escaped with her brother by train. She had left with the bare minimum from Mardin. Her mother (my great-great-grandmother) had told them to flee while she

Turkish-backed SNA promises to "liberate" all remaining parts of Syria under control of the gov and SDF.
I've closely followed the atrocities Turkey, its SNA, and HTS have committed in Afrin since they "liberated" it in 2018. Here's a thread of just a handful:
Not true. Armenian heritage in Nakhichevan was erased in the early 2000s by the Aliyev regime. Muslim heritage in Yerevan was destroyed in the 1930s by the atheist Soviets alongside nearly a dozen Armenian churches that predated the mosques by a thousand years. False equivalency.
Meaningful activism matters. @GretaThunberg not only boycotted the petro-aggressor hosting #COP29 but also visited Armenia to meet with—and learn from—Azerbaijan’s victims forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.
Pictured: Greta making the yummy Artsakhi dish Zhengyalov Hats.
Back in 2020 I said the fall of the legal order of the world has started & it started from the War in #Artsakh/ #NK.
2 years later Ukraine
Another 2 years Gaza
What’s next? We will see but that is a fact that you can’t underestimate the geopolitical importance of the region!
Today we celebrate the glorious victory at #Sardarapat in 1918, when grossly outnumbered and outgunned Armenian militias handed a humiliating defeat to the Ottoman army, not only preventing its further advance into Yerevan, but preventing the complete destruction of the Armenian nation.
As a result of the victory, the Ottoman Empire was forced to recognize the First Republic of Armenia.
Wehib Pasha, one of the Ottoman commanders, is quoted speaking to his headquarters:
“We do not have the strength to defeat the Armenians. The three-day battle in Karakilise shows that as long as their existence is in danger they will prefer to die fighting.”
It’s an important friendship. Azerbaijani oil (delivered via hypocritical Turkey) helps Israel ethnically cleanse Gaza; Israeli weapons streaming into Azerbaijan will continue to help Azerbaijan ethnically cleanse Armenians
The Armenian Genocide began 109 years ago today.
First the Armenian intellectuals, then the entire Armenian people were deported from their ancient lands and massacred.
I remember with respect those who lost their lives in the Armenian Genocide.
Աստուած իրենց հոգին լուսաւորէ...
Armenian orphans who survived The #ArmenianGenocide asking for recognition on the streets of New York in 1918. Over one hundred years later, we continue to mourn our ancestors and fight for recognition and justice so that their deaths do not go in vain. Rest In Peace, beloveds 🖤
Heidar Aliyev once promised "the highest degree of autonomy existing in world practice to the Nagorno Karabakh". From theory to practice, it ended up being "the final cleaning", which eerily recalls "The Final Solution" 👇
Aliyev standing in the middle of Stepanakert, a city of 75,000 Armenians turned ghost town, celebrates the “final cleaning.”
As if there was any doubt that Azerbaijan’s goal was to ethnically cleanse the region of its indigenous population…
Nothing but a war criminal.
It's not every day that you see a head of state openly boast about successful ethnic cleansing to an international audience, but the wonders you see when you look at the EU's strategic partners are truly limitless.
It feels fucking insane to me that the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh and straight up annihilation of a statelet has gone basically ignored. One of the great historical crimes of our time, completely absent from public discourse or consciousness.
Reminder: #Azerbaijan released a postage stamp depicting the chemical fumigation of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh after the 2020 war, and the state TV showed a report how they were washing the Lachin border crossing after final #EthnicCleansing of all Armenians in 2023.
While we were in Syria last week, I received many messages from people who had questions about the Armenian community in Qamishli.
In short, Armenians in NE Syria enjoy full religious freedom. The same cannot be said for the very few Armenians living in Syrian territory occupied by Turkey, its SNA mercenaries, or its HTS/al-Qaeda partners.
As for feelings about the Armenian government, everyone has their own opinion.
And all living in Hasakah and Qamishli are now suffering the effects of recent Turkish bombing, deprived of their normal sources of water, gas, and electricity.
