10 types of employees who get promoted
After years of working in HR, I have noticed something about promotions.
It is not always the most qualified person.
It is not always the person who has been there the longest and it is certainly not always the person who works the longest hours.
Of course, promotions depend on vacancies, structures, performance and many other factors.
But there are certain behaviours that consistently build confidence in an employee.
Here are 10 that stand out for me:
⢠The reliable one.
If they say they will do something, they do it. You don't have to follow up five times. #WeDoWhatWeSay
⢠The problem-solver.
They don't only come to you with problems. They have thought about possible solutions too.
⢠The one who takes initiative.
They don't need instructions for everything. They can see what needs to be done and act.
⢠The one who takes accountability.
When something goes wrong, there isn't always an excuse or someone else to blame. They can say, āI got this wrong. Let me fix it.ā
⢠The one who is easy to work with.
Competent, but also collaborative. They communicate, respect others and know how to disagree professionally.
⢠The one who can take feedback.
You can correct them without every conversation becoming defensive. They listen, reflect and improve.
⢠The one who develops others.
They share information and they teach. They don't need to be the only person who knows how something works.
⢠The one who keeps learning.
Their 10 years of experience actually looks like 10 years of growth not the same year repeated 10 times.
⢠The one who understands the bigger picture.
They have moved beyond āmy job descriptionā. They understand the team, the customer, the organisation and why the work matters.
⢠The one who is already showing signs of the next level.
Not doing someone else's job for free, but demonstrating the judgement, maturity, ownership and leadership expected at the next level.
Promotion is a conversation about trust.
Can I give you more responsibility and trust you with it? Can I trust your judgement? Can I trust you with people? Can I trust you when things become difficult?
Your qualifications may get your name into the conversation. Your performance may get you noticed but your everyday behaviour often gives people the confidence to say:
āI think this person is ready for more.ā
Don't wait for the title to start preparing for the next level. Become ready before the opportunity arrives.

Two, three or more people can take out a joint bond to buy a property together. It does not have to be a home. It can be a business property, a holiday home, or any other type of real estate.
When a group takes out a joint bond, all parties are listed as co-borrowers on the loan and co-owners on the title deed. The bank looks at the combined income and credit profiles of everyone involved, which can make it easier to qualify for a larger loan than any one person could access alone.
Each person is jointly and severally liable for the full bond amount. That means if one person stops paying, the bank can hold any of the remaining co-owners responsible for the entire outstanding balance, not just their share of it.
When it comes to ownership, the title deed will reflect each person's share, which should match what was agreed upfront. This is why it is important to have a written co-ownership agreement in place before you sign anything. The agreement should cover each person's contribution to the deposit and monthly repayments, what happens if one person wants to sell their share, and how the property is handled if the group cannot agree.
A conveyancing attorney handles the legal transfer and registration of the bond. Their job is to make the transaction happen correctly, not to protect any individual party in the agreement. Each person should understand what they are signing before the transfer goes through.

We should try learning to enjoy the getting to know stage of dating but as friends instead of rushing into relationships. Or youāll get a certain type of man that commits fast & claims you. Once that nervous system stabilisesā¦
Corporate life will teach you that knowing the work is only half the battle. The real skill is staying calm in meetings, reading the situation, handling egos, receiving vague feedback, and not responding to emails with your true thoughts.
Young people, if you are able to buy a place in Windhoek, it does not matter whether it is an apartment, do it.
I know we are all hoping for that day when rent and property prices will get cheaper, but trust me, that is not coming any time soon. If you are renting, your rent will only go up over the coming years. The demand is simply too high. More and more people are moving to Windhoek, a lot of international companies, especially from South Africa, are opening branches here, and European and American families are also looking to buy second homes or places in the city.
So if you are renting now and already feeling the pressure, I hate to tell you, but it will only get harder. We have been talking about a housing crisis for some time now, and it is not going away.
If you can get onto the property ladder, even with something small, do it.

Being busy can be deceptive. You can have a full calendar and still be avoiding the one thing that would actually move your life forward.
Activity is not always progress.
