Countless of times I have talked myself out of listening to my instincts because i didn't want to seem paranoid

I used to laugh at people who said, "Trust your instincts."

Then one evening, I was walking home after work when I noticed a man behind me. Nothing strange... he wasn't running, he wasn't calling my name, he was just walking.

But every time I slowed down, he slowed down too.

I told myself I was overthinking it.

When I crossed the road, he crossed too

At that point, my heart was racing. Instead of heading home, I walked into a small shop and pretended to browse. I stayed there for almost 20 minutes.

When I finally came outside, he was gone.

Maybe it was all in my head.

Or maybe it wasn't.

To this day, I still wonder what would have happened if I had ignored that feeling and continued straight home.

That is the irony of life .
