It can take months, sometimes years to help a client become a solid candidate for EMDR reprocessing.

The readiness checklist isn’t there for shits & giggles.

Rushing a client is malpractice & it’s scaring people away from somatic work

Every single time a potential client tells me they’ve done EMDR before, it was a rush job & the client either says it didn’t work or it was a traumatizing experience

All because these therapists refuse to take the time to prep clients properly and they want to rush to the trauma

Especially if you are working with Black clients, you can’t rush the Preparation stage. I even do Phase 2 and history taking at the same time. Preparing a client (esp a Black person with chronic stress or complex trauma) for EMDR does NOT take a couple sessions.
