Some thoughts on below
• Infantino will be extremely concerned CAF President Motsepe is holding talks with UEFA
• It shows the smarts of geo-political flex of inviting Omar Artan to ref Super Cup. Understandably Africans will be cynical, but it allows Europe to position itself as friend of Africa (yes I appreciate how that has turned out in past)
• IF Ceferin is smart (and he is) UEFA will be promising Africa 64-team World Cup, continued FIFA Forward funds, bigger voice for Africa - just help us oust Infantino as we can’t work with him
• Decoding what Motsepe says here, he’s not ruling that out. Which is why Infantino should be worried
• It seems to me he’s saying ‘I’m not against it, but we have to do it in March at FIFA Congress. We won’t be bullied into this’
• UEFA have to walk the line of flexing their obvious power without looking like they’re saying ‘do as we say or we’re not playing’ Because that plays into neo colonial narratives. Positioning themselves as partner of Africa wld mean the end for Infantino
• My concern would be that in this moment of turmoil FIFA 3.0 desperately needs to look at the FIFA Forward grants which create client dependency on the sitting FIFA President
• I’ll write more about this in coming weeks but a truly functioning FIFA would ensure FIFA forward grants were genuinely independent from President, distributed on need rather than entitlement
• The big change necessary: NO money should ever leave FIFA to any organisation that does not publicly available audited accounts - many (most) FAs don’t
• Accounts should include salary of the 3 highest paid employees of said FA - to deter money being diverted into salaries rather than development
• Every FIFA Forward project should publish accounts and have audited scrutiny including all details of construction contracts awarded and any links to the commissioning FA
🚨JUST IN: UEFA are going to change how VAR is used in European football. The organization wants to be clear that VAR does not referee the match.
VAR is now expected to only intervene in clear errors, and the on-field referee will return to being the main decision maker.
National Geographic photographer Paul John Bayfield photographed the recent solar eclipse with a herring gull from over Norwich, UK. A moment he described as "a sight I shall remember for a long time.”

Kudos to @martynziegler for his superb work on this story, as it’s possible Infantino’s grotesque plan would still be alive without The Times exposé. Also ‘nuff respect to @SamuelAgini, @MiguelDelaney and @tariqpanja for their sterling investigative work into FIFA’s machine.
New reporting from @TheBreachMedia shows that Canadian universities operated a secret national effort to coordinate surveillance and policing of anti-genocide activism and encampments.
