Anne Carson’s Nobel prize win is brilliantly timed. Universities worldwide should think twice before they shut down classics, liberal arts, & language programs. Carson’s rigour as a philologist & her career as a classicist has been the foundation of her literary practice!
“It seems a little insane”
Anne Carson was sweeping the kitchen floor at her home in Reykjavík, Iceland, when the phone rang and she learnt that she had been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature.
In this conversation with the Nobel Prize just moments after the announcement, Carson shares her advice for aspiring writers and reveals that she has already started planning how to give away the prize money.
This year’s #NobelPrize laureate Anne Carson was born in 1950 in Toronto, Canada. In 1981, she published her doctoral thesis in Classics entitled ‘Odi et Amo Ergo Sum’, and has, throughout her entire career, combined poetry writing with translation work and teaching at various universities.
Almost all her literary production has centred upon the intersection between the philologist’s obsession with words and the poet’s desire for new meaning. She has herself identified the etymology of words as the starting point for all her work.
Just in!
New Nobel Prize laureate in literature Anne Carson stands surprised in her kitchen in Reykjavík, Iceland. Stay tuned for our exclusive interview with her coming soon.

Congratulations to the best tie wearer in the literary world for winning the highest prize and still rocking her bomb ass ties and writing Eros the Bittersweet. Can’t wait to see what suit and tie wardrobe she wears to accept the Nobel.

On the eve of Anne Carson winning the Nobel prize I have to bring up this article that I absolutely love. Just remarkable writing through and through
Honestly I guess I get it, I'm a pretty big mess and just do not have my shit together at all, and I frankly just whine and mope a lot (quite clearly) and make my problems worse, and I just really want to not be this way so yeah, I want to try and change
Also JoJo's is just really enjoyable, it feels so very irreverent and creative, and just abounding with joy, as if Araki was just having fun making it and that really translates where it'll just not care much for traditional storytelling if it gets in the way of "fun" or "cool"
The only joyous thing in my life right now is that every night I get to talk to a really good friend online and we alternate between watching jojo ( which he's seen) and twin peaks (which I've seen). Sharing media truly is the best bonding experience
Got introduced to Fairuz's music recently and I'm in awe of how beautiful it is. Such an incredibly rich voice that's simultaneously so haunting, and sadly more so now
