@honeyblues11@PolitlcsUK Yeah, exactly. I had to hide out in the treatment room during my shifts periodically just so I didn't collapse from the heat induced exhaustion.
@mechabere Both. The book prepares the mind; the battlefield tests the soul. Rely only on books, and you risk being naive. Rely only on battle, and you risk repeating old mistakes. The wise study the book before they enter the field and learn anew after they've been through it.
On the 80th anniversary of Victory day, we laid a wreath in honour of the 27 million Soviet Citizens who gave their lives to vanquish fascism, and all of the workers who laid down their lives to fight imperialism - in World War 2, and in the ongoing struggle that continues until today.
The Palestinian, Lebanese, Yemeni, Iranian and Syrian People, the Chinese and Russian peoples, the peoples of the Sahel, of Cuba and the DPR Korea, Venezuela and Nicaragua, and workers in struggle all over the globe: all are united in continuing the-anti fascist and anti-imperialist struggle.
NATO and in particular Anglo-American and EU imperialism are the inheritors of the mantle of German Fascism. They are the enemies of the free peoples of the earth, the enslavers and despoilers of nations. The Empire of wage slavery must fall.
Join us!
Worth looking again at this conversation I had with Garland Nixon where we discussed the real history of WW2 and the Soviet Union’s brilliant tactical, economic, diplomatic and military feats in defeating the fascist Wehrmacht, liberating Europe and saving its socialist system.
We also talked about what came after the war and how it laid the basis for much of what we see today in the European Union.

Harpal Brar, Chairman of the CPGB-ML speaks on the significance of the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Victory over Fascism. It holds good ten years on!
Much is written and spoken about WW1 and WW2 - yet it is truly staggering how few people, and particularly how few British Workers, really understand the causes and significance of this struggle, in which 60 million workers gave their lives.
The imperialists (Britain, France, USA, Germany, Japan...) fought, and many millions died to preserve and enforce or extend the wage and colonial slavery of the capitalist class. They fought for slaves and booty and nothing more.
And yet by their masterful leadership, bold strategy and heroic courage and self-sacrifice, the Soviet Union and international communist movement, won world-historic victories which not only preserved their hard won socialist nation, but brought into being a swath of socialist democracies across Europe and Asia, invigorated the anti-colonial struggle, and decisively shifted the balance of power in favour of working people on a global scale.
The victories won by the Soviet Union changed and shaped our world, and all workers should not only know these episode in our history, but we should be truly proud of these earth shattering achievements made by our class, which herald the bright new world we are capable of bringing into being.
This presentation should be compulsory viewing for every British Citizen, and every worker world-wide: help spread the word!
” The bourgeoisie turns everything into a commodity, hence also the writing of history. It is a part of its being, of its condition for existence, to falsify all goods; it falsified the writing of history. And the best-paid historiography is that which is falsified for the purposes of the bourgeoisie.” (Engels, ‘Material for the History of Ireland’, 1870).
This shrewd observation of Engels should be kept in mind when judging:
(i) the causes of the Second World War
(ii) the events leading up to it
(iii) the role in it of the Soviet Union, on the one hand, and the imperialist camp, on the other hand, and
(iv) the results of the war.
The Second, as indeed the First, World War is inseparable from imperialism, whose product it was. Tens of millions of people were slaughtered to decide which set of bandits – the Anglo-American-French or the German-Italian-Japanese – was to get what share of the loot.
The only way out of the morass of imperialist wars is socialism; therefore the struggle against war must be inseparably connected with the struggle for the overthrow of imperialism and the establishment of socialism.
The ruling classes of the ‘democratic’ imperialist countries were complicit in the rise and strengthening of fascism. It was the crowning achievement of the Soviet people to have defeated Nazism – this monstrous product of imperialism in crisis.
The Soviet victory in the Second World War was a disaster for imperialism. If the First World War brought into existence the great and glorious Soviet Union, the end of the Second World War led to the creation of a mighty socialist bloc, stretching from the Soviet Union through eastern and central Europe to the Far East.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the bourgeoisie has gone on the rampage to recolonise the world. It therefore wants not only to belittle the role of the Soviet Union in defeating fascism, but also to malign the record of socialism itself.
This is particularly true of the Baltic states, Poland and, especially, Ukraine. In the last-named country, Stefan Bandera, the notorious Nazi stooge, is honoured with statues and street names as a great fighter for national liberation – not against the Nazis but against the Soviet Union!!!
The Labour party is the agent of increased political repression in Britain
Starmer’s government was installed to disarm working-class resistance and destroy the pro-Palestine movement.

Labour is a capitalist and imperialist party, thoroughly embedded within the bourgeois state apparatus. It in no way seeks to challenge either the economic wage-slavery of workers or existing property relations. And as we have repeatedly seen, it does not reverse but instead routinely utilises and extends all the repressive legislative and state means of suppression of the British working class.
This resolution was passed unanimously by the tenth party congress of the CPGB-ML.
We are happy to report that we had a rare encounter with the CPB-ML. They were a party led by former trade unionist Reg Birch in the 60s-80s. Having a slightly “Maoist” line, Manchander and Harpal Brar (our founding Chair) were on their CC briefly in the late 1960s.
Regarding it as suffering from incurable
1. Economism (glorification of the trade union movement, the demand for a few pennies on the pound over all else over the political struggle of the working class).
2. Narrow Nationalism. A fatal error in an imperialist country. Possibly also under the delusion that Britain is not an imperialist country, and even that it has been ‘coloniesed’ by the USA…
They left in short order.
The party disappeared into the trade unions. And remained largely hidden. But apparently it’s still out there in some much diminished form.
Looking at their leaflet we’d say, the heading is the best bit, but…
A. Russia did not “invade” Ukraine. NATO invaded ukraine and overthrew its democratic government in 2014. Russia finally realised that there was no option but War after the relentless war waged by the Neo-Nazi Ukrainian regime and their NATO masters, who trashed Minsk 2 and carried on with their genocide in the Donbas and against progressive workers across the country.
B. It seems that British militarism would be perfectly acceptable to them, if only they could have a couple of steelworks. So roll on WW3!!
C. Their main objection to sending troops to Ukraine is that they might die. (They would die) - rather than the fact they’d be fighting on the side of Banderite fascism and Neo-Nazi NATO
D. They seem to think NATO would be fine if the US continues to pay…
E. They seem to think that British troops are there to defend British borders. In fact British troops are there to terrorise nations to ensure British corporations can extract profit for British capital. That is to say. Britain remains an imperialist Nation.
It seems Harpal and Manchanda were right. Comrades and former members of the CPB-ML who wish to do something useful are welcome to get in contact with us, engage in study and discussion. And join the struggle to end British Imperialism and bring socialism to Britain.
Our party must continue to take full advantage of every useful opportunity that arises to expand the reach of our revolutionary politics, while preserving the party’s cohesion and independence and avoiding the danger of liquidationism.

Great successes have been achieved with very modest means over the last few years. Our ranks are growing fast, and we can expect them to grow faster still.

We must build our organisation and connect it to the masses.
Party members must redouble their efforts to grow our organisation and draw the best elements of the working class towards it.
Only the most consistent and single-minded approach to the seemingly humdrum everyday, unglamourous tasks of contacting workers, enlisting them into the party, and initiating them into our politics and understanding, will enable us to build our party into a revolutionary vanguard.

Reflections on stall work by a comrade in the East Midlands:
There’s only three of us, is it really worth doing? We only have two hours, should we bother setting up a table and displaying our pamphlets and literature? We should be visible weekly, but we can only commit to one weekend a month. Is it worth bothering?
Such are the thoughts and considerations that run through your mind in advance of committing to a local stall in your region.
The reality is, it is worth it because let’s face it, when and how are people going to hear an alternative perspective, or be presented with the reasons for their miserable and increasingly challenging existence if not directly from us communists!
When you are new to this sort of thing, it can be intimidating. What if people get angry? What if they ask a question I can not answer? What if no one is interested? The reality is, people don’t get angry. They may be disinterested, but they are polite in their derision. Others take a leaflet just to be polite, but hey, that’s ok; they have probably never seen the word communist in print before and may be intrigued to read more. Others are pleasantly surprised to see communists - it has been a long while between engagement - and they greedily take what you offer and are keen to chat about the degradation of our communities, the injustice of capitalism, impending war and the necessity for change.
In a nutshell, it is definitely worth doing, and, in the doing, you get more adept and ideas form about how to do it better. We acknowledge that a leaflet that reflects and resonates with the challenges of the local people may help with our engagement. We will put some thought into its creation. Today, perhaps 200 people came face to face with some communist literature, many perhaps for the first time, and that’s a step in the right direction.
As Lenin said, "We must dream! But we must not confuse our dreams with reality. We must not allow ourselves to be carried away by the sound of big words. We must dream of a real, mass movement and act to make it real!"
What Lenin was saying was that whilst we have the courage to dream of revolution, we root our dreams in hard, disciplined work among the masses.
