Happy Cancerversary to me! I mean it! I am who I am today because 2 years ago cancer broke who I was into a thousand pieces. Who I am today is what was rebuilt out of those pieces. And I like who I am today. (But also fuck cancer.)
Popped back on Twitter cause it's worth it to call your attention to this fundraiser game, live now, raising money for children's hospitals. Come explore the supernatural with us for a few hours, and help us raise money for kids!
I think I need to log off Twitter and assess where my ethics and priorities lie in relation to this site. Sending good vibes to my cancer community! <3
@JudsonKimmel1@EyeVey@ThanksCancer Which is why I think we need a solution that is more complex than a single nationalized healthcare system would likely provide, if we want to maintain high quality of care.
@JudsonKimmel1@EyeVey@ThanksCancer As a cancer patient and a healthcare provider, I do worry about rationing of care in a single payer systems (Iโve seen some heartbreaking stories here!), and many of us will opt to be cash only if our alternative is to work for an inefficient, intrusive system for half the pay.
@JudsonKimmel1@ThanksCancer I think people really don't get how limited our political power really is, and how variable our influence is depending on where in the US we live. Not to mention how many of us are nevertheless working as hard as we can to make things better (even while having cancer!!).
@ThanksCancer If we're defining trauma as being an event or situation, then it 100% is. If we use the technical definition that it is, instead, an emotional reaction to such an event, then that depends on the person. But it's a rare person who would not have such a reaction to cancer!
It is so exhausting that, every time I find myself in an intellectual or professional situation with strangers, I have to go to great lengths to prove myself in order to not be talked down to.
@saraofswords Yuuup. My biggest hesitation is worrying that they may be patients who haven't posted about it yet, but, now that you say that, it occurs to me that that's not my responsibility to acommodate.
@ZachWilcox4's story from tonight explains why this issue is deeper than one instance. I implore you to watch it. Like he says, we have not heard from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office or Gov. DeSantis (who was at the game). https://t.co/gpDtejWIBT
