@erinkoper Awww how sweet! Just so happens to be my mom’s 1st heavenly birthday on 6/19 as well. We call it MOMteenth 🥰 I guess you could call yours DADteenth 🥰
Buckle up, your taxes are rising again!
@phillymayor and City Council “found” money to keep 340 positions in schools, because God forbid the democrat party has headlines that say we had to be fiscally responsible and spend less, especially when we weren’t receiving the outcomes desired while spending your tax money.
When you walk into a McDonald’s and order a Big Mac meal and you hand them $12 or so, you expect certain things in return. Big Mac sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, 3 sesame seed buns, fries & a drink. Imagine walking out of the McDonald’s, you get in your car, you check the bag and see things are missing from your order, you walk back in and let them know they messed up the order and ask can they fix it. Imagine them looking you dead in the face and saying, “well we will have to charge you more in order to get your meal right”.
That’s exactly what’s happening with the Democrat led Philadelphia School district, the Mayor and City Council. They tell you that we’re underfunded and the poor students aren’t doing well because lack of money. $32,122 is spent per pupil in Philadelphia based on CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report), that’s higher than the state average, that’s higher than the national average by 85%
Student enrollment is down 12% since 2016 while staff and spending has increased. Why are we spending more money and it’s less students? In grades 3 - 8th kids are graduating with reading proficiency levels at 33% and math at 25%. So what was so valuable about keeping 340 positions with these outcomes?
Philadelphia also is facing a $300 million dollar structural deficit so 17 schools are about to close and people are losing their minds without asking why and what makes financial sense. Again Philly has significant enrollment drops, 17,000 in the last decade, many buildings with hundreds of empty seats, average buildings are about 75 years old with asbestos, poor ventilation and broken systems.
Philadelphia voters have to start changing the way they see the board, asking themselves, am I’m receiving the desired outcomes for my money and if not who has been in charge the whole time and is it time for change.
A small public service announcement from the Department of Things That You Should Know…
It has not “peeked” your interest.
Nor has it “peaked” your interest.
…It has piqued your interest.
You are not “phased” by something.
You are fazed by it.
If you’ve had a long day, you are weary.
If you suspect someone is an idiot, you are wary.
It is “due course”, not “do course”.
“Per se”, not “per say”.
And while we’re here, it’s “could have”, not “could of”, but that particular battle may already be lost.
Thank you for your attention during this brief outbreak of grammatical housekeeping.
This has been a @LairdofthManor announcement.🎩💙
I was just caught in a teen takeover at the Hyde Park Trader Joe’s and it’s STILL going on at this moment. Multiple fights and swarms in Hyde Park.
This is unacceptable. This is dangerous. And Chicago residents should not have to wonder if a routine grocery trip will turn into chaos.
Teen takeovers are not harmless. They put families, seniors, workers, shoppers, drivers, and young people themselves at risk.
Mayor Brandon Johnson, Governor Pritzker, and local aldermen can no longer treat this like a public relations problem. This is a public safety crisis, and it requires real action.
We need:
✅ A visible public safety plan for high-risk areas
✅ Coordination between CPD, state officials, businesses, and community leaders
✅ Consequences for organized lawlessness
✅ Support for parents and guardians
✅ Safe youth programming that does not excuse criminal behavior
✅ Protection for workers, shoppers, and residents
Compassion without accountability is not leadership.
Ignoring this will not make it go away.
Chicago families deserve safety. Hyde Park deserves safety. Our young people deserve structure, discipline, opportunity, and accountability.
I am calling on the mayor, the governor, and every elected official responsible for this city to act now.
Enough excuses. Protect the people.
