Zimmerman's own examples are the best argument against his proposal. Trump got four deferments and a bone spur diagnosis from his father's tenant. Bush's father pulled strings for a National Guard slot. Clinton told his draft board he was too well educated to serve. Those are not historical footnotes, they describe exactly the kind of people who would be writing the deferment rules, the exemption categories, and the enforcement priorities for any draft revived under this administration. Edward Kennedy's 1973 warning that an all volunteer force means poor people fighting a rich man's war is already true of this war right now, without a draft, since an all volunteer force still recruits disproportionately from communities with fewer other options. Adding conscription on top of an administration already accused of undercounting its own casualties mostly means trusting more people to a system that has already shown it will manage the numbers when they get inconvenient.

All this talk of "healthcare fraud" from Republicans while a sealed Florida grand jury report has revealed that $10 million in Medicaid settlement funds were "misappropriated" by the governor's office, and sat under seal for seven months.

The Desantis administration is accused of misappropriating $10 million in taxpayer money for political purposes.

Multiple Florida officials have also tried to block the release of the report for seven months through closed court proceedings.

Some Republicans are refusing to acknowledge that the report even exists.

The money trail shows that $10 million from a $67 million Medicaid settlement with Centene was routed through the Hope Florida Foundation, split between two nonprofits, passed to a political action committee, and landed with the Republican Party of Florida and the Florida Freedom Fund chaired by DeSantis's chief of staff at the time, James Uthmeier, who is now his AG.

The grand jury found that Uthmeier's Keep Florida Clean PAC was "the prime recipient of the majority of the $10 million taxpayer funds," and that then AG Ashley Moody knew of the plan and directed her chief deputy John Guard to sign the settlement without due diligence.

Desantis is calling the whole thing a "hoax" (of fucking course he is), and claims that the only crime here is the one committed by whomever leaked the report.

The grand jury said outright that nobody would take responsibility and nobody could remember anything about the misappropriation. How convenient!

That's what happens when you LAUNDER MONEY and route it through this and that intermediary.

A sealed finding revealed that a now sitting senator (Ashley Moody was appointed by Desantis to the Senate in 2025) authorized a settlement that routed Medicaid money to a party committee...

This is the sort of thing that SHIFTS POLITICAL RACES, but it's not receiving the national coverage it deserves.

Free Palestine protesters at the Sydney marathon yesterday said they wouldn't let Israeli soldiers "hijack" the marathon to "whitewash their war crimes."

The delegation of Israelis they were protesting came to run and raise money for Shalva, an organization that helps people with disabilities.

Ironically, the protesters attacked a disability support organization that helps both Arabs and Jews, and even has a special program dedicated to doing outreach to Palestinians in East Jerusalem.

Maybe if they want to help Palestinians so much, they should just donate. But I guess yelling at Jews is more fun.

As reported by the @IDF, a Hamas commander planning attacks against civilians and troops was struck yesterday while hiding inside the Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital compound. That’s another example of Hamas exploiting humanitarian infrastructure. Just prior to the strike, the IDF warned officials across Gaza of this systematic abuse.

MSF claimed, as it routinely does, that the IDF is targeting healthcare facilities. It is hardly surprising that such a claim comes from an organization that effectively shields a terrorist group.
While evidence of Hamas’ exploitation of the hospital has been made public, MSF clearly refuses to face reality.

Once again, MSF is burying its head in the sand, as it consistently fails to see the terrorists operating within and around medical facilities in the Strip. MSF continues to turn a blind eye to complaints from Gazan residents themselves regarding the cynical and illegal presence of masked, armed terrorists conducting interrogations inside hospital grounds.

I deeply sympathize with women who are worried about their children facing discrimination.

But what Bushra isn't mentioning in this post is that the comments "foaming at the mouth" are pointing out that she has defended October 7th as "inevitable" and a "right" from the moment the first videos started coming out.

She has also joked that "6 million" protestors were killed in Iran, mocking the deaths of young people whose mothers worried over them just like she does over her son, and implying the number of Jews killed in the Holocaust is an exaggeration.

And, to be clear, her saying those things doesn't make me think her son deserves to be discriminated against. I genuinely hope he never faces hate for his identity because he, like every child, doesn't deserve it.

I just wish she could empathize with the Jewish and Iranian mothers who are holding the exact same fears she does.
