In the 1934 S.F. General Strike, Harry Bridges convinced strikers that full equality for Black longshoremen was necessary. He urged Blacks to join strikers on the picket, saying that when the strike was won, Blacks would work on every dock on the West Coast. He kept his promise.
I've spent almsot a week troubleshooting the anciety vacuum system that runs most of the accessories on my '70 Lincoln Mark III.
And I’m pretty stoked! I solved it with my brain 😊
Long story short, vacuum should hold the headlights open when on and closed when off, and there are failsafe springs to force them open, worst case. But I had one open and one closed.
I added a check valve at the circled red point, based on my belief the system needs one there, and now the headlights stay closed (it’s been over an hour, anyway).
My guess is that either my car is plumbed different than the manual from the factory, or someone at some point broke or lost the main distribution vacuum log that contains two check valves. Instead of a log, I have Tees and a few check valves.
I’m of the opinion that it never could have worked as it was, because the reservoir had no check valve so would lose vacuum out the carb as soon as the engine stopped. The check valve fixed that. No idea if the guy in Chicago or Texas did some modifications or this car is just “different”, but…
It was all complicated by the fact that the headlight I thought was “right” has been modified to move the spring to the other side (ie: default closed). So it looked like just one side was impacted, but the whole system actually was. When you replaced the driver’s side, it was probably already fine! Same with when I replaced it… so the old ones are probably good.
Anyway, thought you might be curious!
Over the weekend a client was falsely arrested by the Houston Police Department for the crime of interfering with his own false arrest. A child had called police to report an argument between my client and his fiance. When police arrived, the woman appeared at the door. Officers wrote that they saw no visible injuries on her and that she told them it had just been a heated argument.
Police literally pushed her out of the way and entered the home without a warrant. They initially had two guns drawn but later had a gun and a taser. The woman pleaded with police that the client was not a “suspect” as they called him that. They pointed their weapons at him and ordered him to show his hands. They put their hands on him to arrest him and threw him to the ground, busting his face. They lied in their report and claimed he had “closed the distance” on them and tried to run through the apartment. He was injured in the incident.
The DAs Office refused charges on family violence (duh) but charged the client with “interference.” He did not interfere, and at any rate, you can’t interfere illegally with a false arrest.
We appeared in front of the judge where I asked for the court to find no probable cause. The court set it for a hearing the next day to give the state a chance to review the video. We showed up in court today and the judge was out, and another judge refused to hold our hearing, leaving my client in jail. I explained that he was going to lose his job and we worked very hard to get him that job (in food service).
The DAs Office continues to engage in pretend prosecutions on cases they KNOW they will never take to trial. They are using human beings as target practice for young lawyers who have no idea and no training.
My client cannot make a $500 bond and I was told today that bond was reasonable so I am doing the only thing I can do when two arms of the same government refuses to fix an obvious miscarriage of justice. He will not sleep another night in jail on my watch for this bullshit.
I teach auto shop at a small high school. We work on students cars, teachers cars, students parents cars and some community people cars. We only charge for parts and not labor, so we saved some people a lot of money last school year. This last school year we did 126 oil changes, 68 brake jobs, 85 alignments, 4 steering racks, 22 tune ups, 32 struts, 20 shock absorbers, 4 transfer cases, mounted and balanced 82 new tires, 4 timing chains, 15 valve cover gaskets, 14 thermostats, 4 radiators, 12 in tank fuel pumps, 8 EVAP canisters, 6 exhaust manifolds, 4 mufflers, 15 AC repairs including evacuate and recharge, 8 alternators, 22 batteries, 9 starters and so much more! Proud of those students I am!
FL police use A.I. to identify a vehicle theft suspect from surveillance video. Based on an "85% match" they arrest and charge Jalil Richardson. He spends 3 months in jail. He loses his job, his home, and custody of his kids.
Richardson lives in N.C.
He's never been to Florida. And his timesheet shows him at work at the time of the crime. No one checked before charging him. https://t.co/2AcQYwq30f
yes and this dynamic is a major driver of the "movement" to "streamline" environmental reviews and regulations so we can "build" and "grow" and have "abundance" or some such. We can't have local communities getting in the way of Meta's infinite growth projections
