🇦🇪 The UAE Is Asking Residents to Sign a Loyalty Oath to MBZ

The concepts of patience (ṣabr) and gratitude (shukr) are powerful. They are not mere words or inactivity; rather, they are states that strengthen a person’s psychological and spiritual well-being. A person becomes resilient and optimistic, with their vision set on the next life rather than this temporal world.
For those living in poverty, the challenge is to be patient, and for those living in wealth, the challenge is to be grateful.
Muslims living in the West generally live good lives. We all have many things to be grateful for. The issue is that we live in a society where ingratitude is increasingly becoming the norm, and people complain about the slightest of issues. I recall reading a study (I cannot recall exactly where at this moment) in which a therapeutic method involves asking the patient to list some of the blessings in their life. Discussing those blessings helps improve the patient’s mental state. This is in line with our din—the more grateful we are, the more Allah will preserve and increase our blessings.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ: “How wonderful is the case of a believer; there is good for him in everything, and this applies only to a believer. If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah, and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently, and that is better for him” (Muslim).
May Allah make us all grateful for the countless blessings He has bestowed upon us. Amin.
