What a fabulous Science Week packed with hands-on learning, real-world science and amazing experiences. There was such a breadth and variety of activities on offer. A huge thank you to all our amazing parents and STEM volunteers who shared their passion and knowledge 🧪🔭
A big well done to our Y4s who travelled to Anglia Ruskin University to participate in the @PublicOak speaking competition, performing to a large, full auditorium and three judges. All the children demonstrated great resilience and articulacy, we're very proud of you.
We have launched our ‘20 is Plenty’ campaign to address concerns around road safety on South Road. Our very enthusiastic children smiled and waved at passing cars, making sure our message was clearly seen.
Y5 travelled back to the Stone Age @Celtic_Harmony for a range of activities, including foraging for herbs to make soup & throwing spears at a wild boar & woolly mammoth. They built shelters, traded resources & watched a flint knapping demo to learn how stones were used as tools.
A very big well done to all the Junior children for the work they’ve put into their Moktar Cup speeches over the last few weeks. Congratulations to all our finalists, you did a fantastic job in front of a packed out hall and judges!
Y2 thoroughly enjoyed their ZooLab visit as part of their Remarkable Rainforest topic. With thoughtful and articulate questions, they met a whole host of rainforest creatures. They bravely held a snake, a gecko, a giant cockroach, and were thrilled to see a tarantula up close.
Year 4 were so fortunate to enjoy their Epping Forest visit in such glorious sunshine. A wonderful sunny day was spent learning about rivers and conducting scientific experiments!🌳
Thank you to our fabulous PTA for running our Mother's Day Gifts for Grown Ups pop up shop. The children chose gifts with great thought and care. Hopefully they can keep the surprise until Mother’s Day!
Well done to all 14 of our Y6s who took part in the Big Bang Science Fair showcasing the investigations they've worked on this term. They were so articulate talking to the judges and we're delighted one of our teams won Best Scientific Investigation for KS2!
What a book-tastic day we had with fabulous themed activities including each class composing a poem. The atmosphere at the Read and Treat at the end of the day was a real highlight. It was lovely to see so many families enjoying the spring sunshine and reading together.
Y2 had a tree-mendous start to their Remarkable Rainforest topic. Guided by their ranger teachers, they spent the day immersing themselves in rainforest life, writing rainforest riddles, creating striking animal print artwork & a scavenger hunt discovering rainforest creature.
Y3 had a wonderful circus themed day, learning to spin plates, roll flower sticks & diablos, balance peacock feathers, juggle & so much more. They balanced on unicycles, rode mini bikes and tried their hand at hula hooping. 🎪🤡
Thank you @ASUatSWCHS Y1 have loved having guinea-pigs in their classrooms this week. The children had hands on experience of making sure their class pets had food, water, shelter, activity and love. All part of their science learning about animals 🐹
Thank you @walden_fire_stn Y2 loved their visit. After learning about fire safety, they explored the fire station and learnt how quickly firefighters must get ready if they receive a call out. The opportunity to use the hoses was a real highlight!
Y6 loved Cambridge Science Centre, exploring different scientific concepts via games & challenges. They generated an AC current using electro magnets to power light bulbs & fans, & created land yachts to observe how the different sail shapes/sizes influenced distance travelled.
Year 6 have been learning about the human circulatory system and making models of the components of blood using cereal, lentils and food colouring. All in the name of science!
