Labour was elected in July 2024 with an overriding promise to accelerate economic growth. We now now have its record for its first full calendar year, 2025:
Q1: 0.7%
Q2: 0.2%
Q3: 0.1%
Q4: 0.1%
So, far from stimulating the economy, the dead hand of Starmer-Reeves has knocked the stuffing out of it. They took a good start to the year and squandered it with reckless tax, spend and borrow (none of which was in their manifesto).
Our giant services sector — 2nd biggest in the world — is stagnating. Construction is in its worst state for over 4 years, with output down 2% in Q4 (which is why Labour’s promise of 1.5m new houses by 2029 is already broken).
As for GDP per capita, which was very popular among X tweeters under the Tories but not so much now (I wonder why), it fell for the second quarter in a row — so we’re effectively in a GDP/capita recession.
@TicketmasterUK you are a joke. In the queue for 8 hours. Every time I have got to the front? You have suspended blah blah blah. Before you ask, yes I have only had the app open.
@Winchweight267@MPIainDS Current high house prices brings more than you think into it. It’s shocking that you have to take a mortgage out to keep the family home to pay the inheritance tax. I totally agree with the need to raise the threshold to protect what we build to hand over to Shannon.
@afneil This is just going to push more and more high earners out of Scotland. All Oil industry executives will no longer want to be based at Aberdeen and will move.
At @RAFLossiemouth today, the PM met service personnel and heard about their remarkable work defending our skies.
We pay tribute to all our Armed Forces, including the many personnel serving over Christmas, who go to extraordinary lengths to keep every one of us safe.
This is a JOKE! @networkrail have let the Forces community as a whole down by cancelling many trains this Sunday on the one day a year many (elderly veterans) who fought for our country wish to go to the Cenotaph to remember the fallen. I’ve been told it’s for safety reasons etc…so why not do it Friday? Even sat??? Their planning to shutdown many of their routes this Sunday should mean they are stripped off this covenant award. If they really cannot change the date, why have they not made people aware? And why are they not offering to put on coaches direct to the Cenotaph. Replacement buses will not manage the volume nor indeed get many veterans there on time to march. What’s the point in free travel on Remembrance Sunday if there are no bloody trains to get on….SHOCKING. @MailOnline@BBCBreaking@itvnews@JohnnyMercerUK@TalkTV
@ForcesNews This is going to cause outrage. There is no ‘RAF offer’ I can use or want to use to stop people from leaving the service. The draw of civilian rates of pay far outstrips the current pay rates, they are not even close.
@TonyBellew@JoeMarler I read his book, very humbling and an honest account. Much respect for the way he opens up and giving courage to others to seek help.
