He values an impartial civil service except when civil servants do their duty to impartially implement the Government’s policy and be really doesn’t agree with the policy. Hm.
I value an impartial civil service - but I doubt I would employ anyone in future who had been a part of planning for Brexit, particularly those engaged in ‘no deal’ preparations who are literally wrecking jobs & businesses in pursuit of an immoral & illegitimate policy

@rorypercival I suppose you could say, re price, that gold would have *some* value even if it wasn’t a store of wealth, unlike bitcoin, but that counter-factual isn’t of any significance, since its, well, not the case.
@rorypercival My point about the *price* of gold is that it is entirely determined by wealth store use, not use in jewellery (or whatever). As to ancientness, well quite, that’s the difference. Gold was made up as precious a longer time ago.
@rorypercival Value of gold is basically “artificial” in the same way, isn’t it? The making up was just longer ago (so more stable over time and thus more reliable, but not different in kind).
@rorypercival Chap on the radio the other day was saying it’s better to think of Bitcoin as an asset like gold rather than a currency. It doesn’t make that much difference to the fact people have to imbue them with value. But then again, gold.
