@17thCenturyLady Likely Rembrandt’s concubine Hendrickje Stoffels. His late wife Saskia van Uylenburgh (d. 1642) made sure in her last will he’d lose all if married again. Here’s his self-portrait in 1652 and his wife’s portrait in a red hat circa 1633-1634, both wearing earrings.

@17thCenturyLady „A Polish nobleman” by Rembrandt, 1637 @ngadc. Identified as Andrzej Rey. He was in London in 1637 to explain to Charles I why Władysław IV broke off the engagement with Elizabeth of the Palatinate, but no ambassage or message from the king of Poland was received.

@17thCenturyLady After 10 months on Bermuda building two ships out of one shipwreck Sir Thomas Gates arrived in Jamestown and order evacuation to Newfoundland. Baron De La Warr turned them back and proceeded with the counter-offensive. I want a gritty I English-Powhatan War movie.

@strafesti@JackPosobiec There was one column with mostly German infantry and another with mostly Polish cavalry. Team work under command of Jan III Sobieski.
@EduardHabsburg What payments? Imperator payed hundreds of thousands to Prince Lubomirski trying to stop Ottoman marche towards Vienna. Keeping the Polish Army in the field cost millions a year. Polish-Habsburg defence-offence pact 1 Apr 1683 saved Vienna. Starhemberg advised Leopold I to leave.
@PiotrCegie@visegrad24 Except Ottomans stole our land and returned it only in 1699. Fuck Vienna, atleast we saved Moravia. It took almost 100 years, thieves like Elector of Brandenburg forging Polish coin, to take down the brightest Republic of Poland. Three German women partitioned it. We’re back tho.
@visegrad24@EJagiellonians Check out the pogrom of Tatar chambuls done by Jan Sobieski in 1672. With barely 3000 men he killed 20000 Tatars and saved 44000 Poles and Ukrainians from slavery. 12 days, 20 battles, no eat, no sleep, holy rage. Vienna 1683 was the same, distraction, then the Winged Hussars tho
@17thCenturyLady@ChatsworthHouse I’d visit King Władysław IV of Poland’s theatre at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Fascinated with the English theatre he contracted the troupe of Richard Jones, later brought Italian artists & the opera. The scene had a hi-tech machinery & the venue held 1000 people.

@cezarykrysztopa Kniaź Jarema mistrz, a Król Jan II Kazimierz Vasa był królem, największa bitwa w Europie. Jan Sobieski nieźle tam po łbie dostał, Jerzy Lubomirski go uratował.
@GitanasNauseda@NawrockiKn „A życie jego – trud trudów,
A tytuł jego – lud ludów;
Z matki obcej; krew jego, dawne bohatery,
A imię jego czterdzieści i cztery.
Sława! Sława! Sława!”
@pl_european Germany provided none. EU pays what it owes to Poland. Germans must pay for what their grandpas and grandmas destroyed in Poland, return what they stole and don’t forget to say thank you for liberating them from nazis and giving place to live, as they lost all their lands at war.
