A well-known LGBT+ musician is Sir Elton John, who came out as bisexual back in 1976 before later coming out again as gay in 1988. Some of Sir Elton's most recognised songs include "I'm Still Standing", "Tiny Dancer" and from the Lion King, "Circle of Life" #LGBTHM21

An extraordinary LGBT+ figure is Sofia Kovalevskaya who was Russian Mathematician. She was the first woman to have a doctorate in mathematics in Europe. She is credited for having proposed several different theories and publishing multiple revolutionary papers. #LGBTHM21

The lack of LGBT+ diversity in STEM subjects is a longstanding issue that is often left out of conversations about widening participation into STEM. It is estimated that LGBTQ+ community are approximately 20% less represented in STEM fields than expected. #LGBTHM21 #YSLTakeover
