RA Informant

I'm an FSU freshman aspiring to become an RA. Got any questions? Are they actually human, or just robots? How about their training? I got you covered.

If there's anything you can learn from an RA, it's how to avoid the same mistakes they made, avoid easy pitfalls and ask for some advice.

Fun fact: your RA is a human being that is going through some of the same stuff as you are right now, talk with them, learn something new.

From the Georgetown Voice, the RAs often face issues that don't come to light as often as you might think #RAlyfe https://t.co/uqo1FvC5lX

You may be worried about getting written up for something like this but RAs are always looking out for your best interest first. #RAlyfe

Even something basic like CPR or knowledge to turn a blacked out person onto their side to drain puke can save lives.

No RA wants their residents to get sick, fall off the edge of the world, and die, so first aid training is critical in an RA regimentation.

But an RA can have an immediate affect on the status of a resident, even if they aren't in the position to seek out help themselves. #RAlyfe

Actually help the resident when they need it. Counsellors and psychologists that can address these problems aren't as close at hand. -->

check up on them and make sure that they're doing okay, if a resident becomes reclusive or acts strangely the RA can intervene and -->

Gatekeeper training is a way in which RAs can better protect the mental health of their residents, being so close to them they can often -->

You guys might not be aware, but there a lot of different ways that RAs can be trained, some being... more effective than others. #RAlyfe

Wondering how RAs at FSU get trained? They start 3 weeks before move in day, some days the training goes from 9am-9pm #RAlyfe #workinhard

[RA Informant @RAinforming]

They do this by posting reminders about quiet hours and by also encouraging healthy study habits as finals come up

On top of many of their normal duties RAs also provide a sort of oversight for their residents, making sure they get enough sleep... #RAlyfe

Befriending your RA is something that every resident should get around to; getting a great friend and valuable knowledge base for college
