💡Do you know reading to babies fosters early language development and expands their vocabulary, leading to better communication skills?
Take it from my niece and nephew who already got their copies! 🥹🐰

@Karimah25247939@DrErinReilly It is interesting that the participants exhibited increased requesting and info sharing with PECS. It would also be interesting to know if the participants could generalize skills they learned when communicating with their teachers to engaging in social interactions with peers!
@CummingsKeera Keera, I enjoyed learning about ComAlong as an EI strategy - I have never heard of it before! Many studies show that parent involvement is a crucial factor for successful therapy. This information is good for any SLP student going into the EI field to know.
@nicoleg02170 I enjoyed reading your summary - I have a special interest in the ASD population and have attempted using low-tech AAC with an EI client before. New research will always be needed to address the many unique communication complexities of each individual with ASD.
A 2020 study by Navarro and her colleagues reported on a modified input-based word learning treatment and its ability to facilitate communication for two late-talking toddlers. The toddlers were required to use an AAC device, or speech, to communicate. https://t.co/npFWKz5UdG
Each child used both AAC and vocal speech to produce novel words and demonstrated emerging word-combination skills by the end of the study. This indicates that for some “late talkers”, the addition of AAC use to input-based treatment may lead to more successful outcomes.
