It's a sad day at the Rapid City Fire Department, as we celebrate the life of Cisco, a former member of our department and South Dakota Task Force 1. Cisco retired last year after 7 years of service, due to his deteriorating health.

The newest RCFD recruits will take part in a graduation run on November 19th starting at 9 a.m., the run will begin at Fire Station 1 on Main Street and will go to 7th Street to St. Joe, back to Station 1. The public is encouraged to attend and cheer on our newest members.
This week is Crash Responder Safety Week. Nearly every week, a first responder is killed while helping clear a roadway crash. We need motorists to do their part to protect responders by slowing down, moving over and staying alert when approaching traffic incidents.

Captain George Carter, Lt. Henry “Hank” Tank, and Firefighter George “Ike” Sumners made the ultimate sacrifice 49 years ago today during the Flood of 1972. They gave their lives, saving the lives of others that were trapped in the raging waters of Rapid Creek.
The Rapid City/Pennington County Water Rescue Team trained this week on how to complete safe salvage operations. The focus of the program is to conduct salvage operations as they apply to underwater crime scenes and investigations.
