Together with many other interesting projects we were invited to present at the #ÖBIKA Biochar-Day. Pictures and presentations can be found below:

Even if such a biogenic char deposit were, e.g., unburied by a disaster like a flooding incident, the CO2 would be released extremely slowly (comparable to soil amendment). Buried biomass, on the other hand, would start to rot.
@RobertHoglund, any chance you could add "biogenic char burial" to the list? Yes, we can use high-quality biochar as a soil amendment, but it is (by far) not a betterment for every soil. Also, for burial, we can utilize biogenic chars of lower quality as well.
Thank you to everyone commenting on the new carbon storage classification I put out. Ver 2.0 is now published in @illuminemNews https://t.co/x70XRCrKGz
Added distinction between very low/low/high risk of reversal, +biooil +changes to the article text.
More comments welcome!
The same goes for deposits closer to the surface. Those would allow for a much more small-scale & decentralized approach compared to geological sites. However, it is true that in desperate times (e.g., nuclear winter), the incentive to re-extract coal deposits would be tempting.
"Lets talk about carbon offsets: what they are, what they claim to do, and how they may actually be making things even worse."
Some 🔥🔥🔥🔥 from @iamjohnoliver last night: https://t.co/xONvyeotOq
So, is the argument that if the science of, say, weight loss suggests you need to combine sufficient diet and exercise to get to net weight loss, that we shouldn't mention exercise lest merely hearing about exercise is a dangerous trap and causes the patient not to diet enough?🤔
Can't believe I missed this. Great work by @carbonplanorg Ton-year accounting should not be implemented.
"Using ton-year accounting to justify ongoing emissions with short-term carbon storage leads to higher warming over time, not climate stabilization."
The Paris Agreement has an ambition of 1.5°C, IPCC has said this requires ~50% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2030 & net zero in early 2050s.
I am sure this is a scientifically interesting request, but I wonder how policy relevant it is now? Biggest issue is raising ambition?
