@editoremilye There’s no excuse. None! On top of the emails you mentioned, we have access to existing 504s in the SIS weeks before school starts. I always preview them then so I’m not caught off-guard by any more distinctive needs, then refer back again as I put faces to names. Not hard!

@Ellethevillain Yup. Maybe some is also the danger of a big time jump. Like a 2nd season doesn’t usually need to spend time establishing audience relationship w/ characters and baseline worldbuilding, but here maybe they should’ve … and seem to be covering it with slapdash back-filling?

@heymrsbond Around October, they also set Wednesdays as “distance learning/teacher work days” to get it all done, so now I have a repository of me teaching lessons on video (across 3 math courses) as a resource for absent kids.

@heymrsbond Most of our students were in-person but some opted for online—luckily, our online students were asynchronous. That was enough of a handful…can’t imagine what it was like for those expected to do it at the *literal* same time.

@k8roulette2 Still refining the process, especially on my end. And while I know plenty of the emails still get ignored in flooded inboxes, I feel (from feedback I’ve gathered) that more are opened than would be if it was an update from me, and that many home adults appreciate them.

@k8roulette2 Past 2 years, I’ve had my students email a home adult before each quiz (roughly every other week). They summarize each lesson, reflect on their understanding of that topic, set a goal for the quiz, note what they’ll need to do to achieve it & reflect on past quiz goals.

Classroom discourse is different from what a lot of resources out there expect me to want to know. I need more about asking questions and explaining things, especially with more abstract concepts on both counts.

I do okay between Duolingo teaching me the language basics and a lot of checking other sources for the math side (and basically proofreading Google Translate) ... but I feel like I'm only going to get so far.

For me, there may not be anything better than hearing 8th and 9th grade students softly singing along to the '80s/'90s playlist I play while they work on their math practice.

@HillaryMonahan This is horrible. We're dealing w/ a 94yo grandmother telling me & my sister not to get old. She has dementia, it's rough, I get it, but we lost our mom 1 week shy of 68, and Dad just turned 70. I'd love him to reach 90.

Now this clown reinforcing with this garbage. 😒
