R Connection

QPR stories, told by the people who lived them. An independent supporter-led archive. Free. Always. #QPR

[R Connection @RConnection1882]

Ben Jacobs inherited QPR from his great-grandfather.

Four generations later, he's the one looking for the next generation of Rangers players, often before the rest of us have even heard their names.

A story about family, football and why there's always someone coming through.

💙🤍 **COMING TUESDAY | R CONNECTION**

We caught up with @BenSJ2007 from @QPR_DS , part of a new generation of supporters helping shape the QPR community.

Hopefully we were a little kinder to him than in another recent interview! 😉

Full interview drops Tuesday, but here's a little taster. 👇

Hi Bees fans 👋🐝

Thought it was time for a little reminder of your place in the natural order of things.

Jim Gregory. QPR. And the alternative history in which Brentford might never have existed as an independent club.

You’re welcome. 😉

💙🤍 DID YOU KNOW? | JIM GREGORY

Jim Gregory, QPR's most successful chairman, built a club that came within a point of winning the league.

But here's a little-known story. In 1967, he nearly took over Brentford, moved Rangers to Griffin Park and ended their existence as an independent club.

R Connection: Martin Percival

What We Keep..

As Forever R's celebrates its tenth anniversary, we sat down with Martin Percival, one of the supporters who played a key role in its creation.

Martin's family have been following Queens Park Rangers since around 1895. His grandfather Will, his father Frank and then Martin himself. Three generations and more than 130 years of QPR history.

But this conversation is about much more than football.

Martin shares his father's extraordinary story of surviving the Burma Railway, the family collection of QPR memorabilia he rebuilt after the war, and how a childhood autograph from Dave Thomas eventually became a friendship.

We talk about the origins of Forever R's, the importance of remembering the people who have shaped our club, and the stories that pass between generations of supporters.

And we discover why, after a lifetime following Rangers, two words from Martin's father still mean so much.

Keep the faith.

This is Martin Percival's R Connection.

💙🤍 EVER WONDERED WHY QPR PLAY HI HO SILVER LINING?

For QPR, this song is about Daphne Biggs.

A much-loved figure in the Rangers family, Daphne loved the song. After her passing, the club began playing it after home victories in her memory.

Now, whenever those familiar opening notes ring out at Loftus Road, they carry a little piece of Daphne with them.

This is what R Connection is all about. The people, the memories we share and the connections that make QPR about so much more than football.

Daphne Biggs. Always remembered. 💙🤍

A big thank you to @MarkofGrove for the suggestion.

WILL & TILLY: YOU’RE NEVER ON YOUR OWN
R CONNECTION #002

Will went to Barnsley away. QPR lost 1–0. Tilly messaged him to tell him he was an idiot for going.

Four years later, they were married.

This is the story of everything that happened in between, and the people QPR brought into their lives along the way.

Full conversation below. #QPR

WILL & TILLY’S R CONNECTION DROPPING NEXT WEEK

If there’s an interview that truly embodies the spirit of R CONNECTION, it’s with @will_pound and @Tilly_QPR

A bond between two people that grew out of their shared love of QPR.

Two optimistic, positive fans who see QPR as a brilliant way to connect with friends and family, and who enjoy the bad days just as much as the good.

We were lucky to spend some time with them and hear their story.

It’s a lovely one. 💙🤍

If you haven’t watched Dave Thomas’s R Connection yet, here’s a little taste of what you’re missing.

The QPR/Fulham merger, Pete Doherty, Wembley and more than 60 years of following Rangers.

And some brilliant stories along the way.

DAVE THOMAS: THE CONSTANT THREAD

We’re thrilled to finally launch R Connection, an archive of the collective memory of QPR, told through the people young and old who are connected to the club.

There was only one person we wanted to start with. Dave Thomas has one of the great QPR stories, and his R Connection sums up exactly why we wanted to start this project.

Dave couldn’t get his camera working on the day, so we’ve used photographs and archive imagery alongside the conversation instead. Hopefully you’ll forgive us, because the stories are well worth it.

We’ll share links to the podcast version shortly.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
