Gonna be spending more time on b!ue 5ky. Find me there at rdpassmore for sci-fi, fantasy, and horror writing. Way too many bots, ads, and trolls since the election.
If you have dedicated your life to words and books and literature and language, you have my respect and I will be collegial in all my relations and interactions with you. I think we owe each other that in this strange age, in which our trade, our passion, goes so against the tide
somehow the same AIs that can do PhD-level math and superhuman coding can only write as well as “a real poet’s okay poem” (sama’s words, not mine!)
I talked to the people training AIs to write about what makes it so hard:
new from me for @TheAtlantic: https://t.co/2mjIfruImn
@TheLincoln Yup. And to me, it also reveals the naked amorality of the whole project: at minimum, the entire technology is built on lying, either for the "writer" or to the reader.
@nrmehta@mirandanover Not sure how you define long (and I'm not sure how much you're up for experimental, either), but: David Foster Wallace's "Infinite Jest," Mark Z. Danielewski's "House of Leaves," and "James Joyce's "Ulysses" are some of the greats. James Clavell's "Shogun" is another.
I have a yearly ritual of sharing this Keith Leonard’s poem, almost like a personal tradition. Some poems are perfect, beatific things you want to wear for the rest of your life. If you have ever wondered about the navel at which philosophy joins with poetry, here’s your answer.
@shaindelr If you're looking for mental health narratives, I'd love to volunteer my personal essay "To Breathe Wholly and Free."

didn't schedule this purposefully, but today's wonderful 99er poem from @kennymwrites being a drinking game feels kinda perfect?
