“I feel more aware of what support there is for students who experience hate and for myself as a facilitator. I understand what exactly religious hate is and what can be done about it, both proactively and reactively.”
As part of the Woolf project “Students’ Experiences and Understanding of Religious Hate Incidents on Campuses”, we recently held a workshop on combating religious hatred for staff and students working at the University of Cambridge.
We were delighted to welcome Professor Kristin Aune, who began the day by presenting findings from the Tackling Religious Hatred on Multi-Faith Campus and IDEALS UK projects, both of which are among the leading bodies of research examining religion and belief in UK higher education.
Leo Taylor then shared preliminary findings from the Woolf project, drawing on interviews with students at an anonymous 'traditional elite' university. His research explored how institutional context shapes students' experiences and understanding of religious hatred, where students report incidents, their confidence in institutional responses, and how religious hatred is experienced on campus.
Key themes included:
· Institutional identity and inclusion
· The ambiguity of religious hatred
· Everyday experiences of religious hatred
· Barriers to reporting
· The impact of Israel–Palestine on campus relations
Following the presentations participants engaged in discussion groups which explored the following topics:
· What Roles Do Different Staff Play in Supporting Religion and Belief on Campus?
· Where Do We Draw the Line Between Harm, Hate Incidents and Hate Crime?
· What Would Help Cambridge University Respond More Consistently and Constructively?
Particular thanks to all contributors and to the Hibbert Trust for generously funding the project.

The UN plays a pivotal role in tackling global problems which shape lives in the UK and all over the world.
Good to welcome @antonioguterres to London to discuss the situation in the Middle East and Sudan, and reaffirm the UK’s commitment to the UN and its core principles.

Thinking of my dad today, whose influence still stays with me long after his passing.
Being a father has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.
My sons and daughter remind me every day of the importance of love, opportunity and belonging.
Fathers and strong role models help young people build the confidence, resilience and values they need to thrive.
That's why I'm leading work across government to back dads, strengthen families and improve outcomes for men and boys.
🟣 @UK_FoST's next webinar about the West Bank is on #protective#presence. We'll hear from authors of a recent book on the topic, Marwan Darweish, Mahmoud Soliman and Andrew Rigby. 🟣

When tested in a proper, peer-reviewed, model #MMT - Modern Monetary Theory - would substantially destabilize output, undermine overall macroeconomic stability, and reduce household welfare. Which is about as dire as it gets.
And it has been extensively tested, especially in Latin America.
