This weekend I shared a post voicing my concerns about the far left. The response has been overwhelming. Leaders in both parties called to tell me the same thing: this stuff has gone too far.

To be clear: I'm a progressive Democrat. My whole life, I've wanted to see a youth movement fight for affordability, for healthcare, for real opportunity. It’s time! The system has utterly failed the next generation. Young people deserve real change — and they are right to fight for a better future.

But the movement is being hijacked by too many people with insane, outlandish and nutty ideas that have nothing to do with affordability, climate solutions or health care.

For example: Mamdani picked a DSA candidate who wants to abolish the police, empty every prison, erase every border and discourage interracial dating. Okayyyy ... So clearly, Chevalier has no problem condemning things! UNLESS it’s a designated terrorist organization. Believe it or not: Chevalier has refused to denounce the terror group Hamas — four times. That’s INSANE — and progressives can’t be afraid to call nonsense like that out.

Supporting Hamas is NOT progressive. The idea of “no police, no prisons, no borders” — which would let pedophiles, human traffickers, terrorists, hate groups and crime syndicates run wild — is NOT progressive for vulnerable communities. Celebrating the murder of Israeli civilians is NOT progressive. These ideas are REGRESSIVE.

If we can't tell right from wrong, good from bad, smart from loony tunes — Team Blue will go down the same road that turned the Republican Party into a shell of itself.

We can’t let that happen to the Democratic Party.

Jewish New Yorkers gathered last night at Park East Synagogue. They were greeted with a dangerous, hateful and antisemitic mob. Mayor Adams and Governor Hochul spoke out forcefully on the incident. Mayor-elect Mamdani did not.

Rather than fulfill his pledge to protect all Jewish New Yorkers, the Mayor-elect’s comments today contribute to an already hostile environment for the Jewish community by refusing to denounce last night’s blatantly antisemitic harassment and intimidation.

Deeply troubling is the Mayor-elect’s comments suggesting Jewish institutions in New York are “violating international law” by holding a community program supporting Jews who want to move to Israel. This is outrageous and deeply offensive and is rooted in a hateful ideology that Jews are the only people in the world who do not deserve the right to self-determination in their ancestral homeland.

The Mayor-elect needs to clarify his comments and tell us how he will protect the safety of all Jewish New Yorkers and institutions regardless of their views on Israel and Zionism.

Why do advisors charge outrageous AUM fees? Why are sp many advisors ripping off clients?

Four words.
1. Because
2. Clients
3. Pay
4. Them

Seriously, that's it. It's good business. When you're in business, you charge what people are willing to pay.

We're in business here at WCI. We charge as much for ads as we can find businesses willing to pay. If we're charging too much, people stop buying them and we have to lower the prices or not get any income at all. It's a constant balancing act.

It turns out an AUM fee business is a GREAT business. Sure, when you first pick up your clients they only have $300,000 or $1 million or whatever. But for the next 20-50 years, they're only getting wealthier. And most of them are very sticky. They don't like this money stuff so they don't do a simple math equation every year, they don't negotiate, and they certainly don't want to go find another advisor.

You don't need very many clients like that to have a viable solo financial advising practice. 50-100 families is plenty. If they average $1 million in assets, and you're charging 1%, 75 families generates $750,000 in revenue. If $250,000 goes to overhead, the advisor earns $500,000 in profit. That's a nice living.

That's not the way it starts. It starts with 20 families with an average $350,000 in assets. That's only $70,000 in revenue. That's really lean, and you're certainly not hiring any help.

But as the years go by you fill the practice with 100 clients and they become richer and richer and richer. When those clients average $2 million, that's $2 million in revenue for the practice each year. Maybe $500,000 is going to overhead now and you're taking home $1.5 million. More next year if the market doesn't crash and not too many people fire you after reading this article.

Delegators don't tend to read financial blogs. Why would you change your model? Even if you lose a handful of clients a year, the other 95 will easily send you five more to replace them. And you feel like you deserve it because you remember how hard you worked during those lean years to find 100 families willing to not do a math equation every year.
