Thought I agreed, but on reflection:
True, charisma or compelling qualities can mask flaws in someone’s logic or reasoning.
But also true, writing ability may be a direct reflection of levels or education or training — more than the quality or worth of someone’s ideas.
The best way to gauge the quality of someone’s ideas isn’t to listen to them talking. It’s to read their writing.
Compelling speakers can mask weak logic with strong charisma. Putting key points on a page exposes flawed reasoning.
Compelling writing requires clear thinking.
In co-creating w/ ppl experiencing #homelessness or #housinginsecurity, some w/o training aren’t strong writers. But ideas they articulate verbally & ways they engage artfully/analytically in discourse show intelligence & critical thinking that even some strong writers lack.

And: as people increasingly reject compromise in relationships (sometimes rightfully citing healthier boundaries, more self-respect, etc.) do we risk shielding ourselves from even healthy exposure to diverse attitudes/approaches, and learning through alignment (if not agreement)?
Insights for healthy discourse too: can feature disagreement or perfectly oppositional opinions, if people share values of open-mindedness and commitment to learn from/about others’ perspectives.
How do we protect such dialogue, which confronts assumptions & prompts innovation?

Strong relationships don’t need agreement. They need alignment.
Agreement is having identical opinions. Alignment is having shared values.
Agreement is taking the same path. Alignment is heading in the same direction.
Closeness is a matter of commitment, not consensus.

First time we have seen each other in person since the @AcademyHealth#ParadigmProject though we did write a paper together 'Culturally responsive health research: A collaborative design model for equitable and sustainable community impact' #ARM23 https://t.co/aZC0ZDxVal
Appreciate the insights from @Nancy_Lopez_PhD, one of the “New Perspectives on Health Equity” panelists at @AcademyHealth#ARM23. She asked us to ask ourselves 2 questions: 1) What is your “street race?” and 2) What is your social location within grids of power?
"If you do not know the etiology of a patient’s symptoms, have enough humility to admit this, validate their concerns, and refer them to a physician who may be able to help."
